1902 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1902 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 16th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. Redmonds were the defending champions. Dungourney won the championship following a 3–10 to 2–5 defeat of Shanballymore in the final. This was their first championship title. Dungourney GAA
Dungourney GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dungourney, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. It is a member of the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. The club was one of the strongest clubs in the Cork during the first decade of the 20th century. Its 3 Cork Senior Hurling Championship titles were the most by a club outside Cork City for many years. The best known player is Jamesy Kelleher who was included on Cork's Hurling Team of the Century. In 1902, the club represented Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. This resulted in the club winning the All-Ireland hurling title. Jamesy Kelleher
Jamesy Kelleher (31 March 1878 – 10 January 1943) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Dungourney, County Cork, Kelleher first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Cork senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1900 championship. Kelleher immediately became a regular member of the starting team, and won two All-Ireland medals and seven Munster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions. At club level Kelleher was a three-time championship medallist with Dungourney. Throughout his career Kelleher made 47 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1914 championship. Kelleher was posthumously honoured by being named in the right corner-back position on the Cork Hurling Team of the Century. Shanballymore GAA
Shanballymore GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, based in the village of Shanballymore, located in the northern part of County Cork, Ireland. The club fields both Gaelic football and hurling teams. It is a member of the Avondhu division of Cork GAA. History The club has been in existence since the 1880s. The club has been primarily a hurling club, but it has played Gaelic football also, though with less success. Records indicate that there was a senior football team in Shanballymore in 1894 but all traces of a team was lost up to the 1940s when a team called Brian Boru's was fielded. Denis Daly (hurler)
Denis Daly (6 November 1876 – 2 March 1947) was an Irish hurler who played for Cork Championship club Shanballymore. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for one season during which time he usually lined out at midfield. Playing career Shanballymore Daly joined the Shanballymore club at an early age and eventually became one of the stalwarts of the club. On 3 May 1903, he captained the Shanballymore senior team that were defeated by Dungourney in the delayed 1902 Cork Championship final. Cork Daly made his first appearance for the Cork senior hurling team on 31 August 1902 in a 3-12 to 1-04 defeat of Kerry. On 26 April 1903, he won a Munster Championship medal following a 3-10 to 2-06 defeat of Clare in the final. Daly was at centre-field when Cork suffered a 1-05 to 0-04 defeat by London in the delayed 1901 All-Ireland final on 2 August 1903. Redmonds GAA
Redmonds is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Cork in County Cork, Ireland. The club is situated in Tower Street, on the southside of the city. The club participates in Cork GAA competitions and in Seandún divisional board competitions. The club no longer fields hurling teams but continues to participate in the Seandun junior C football competitions. Redmonds won the championship following a 1–11 to 2–4 defeat of St. Finbarr's in the final. This was their third championship title overall and their second title in succession. They would go on to win the Munster Senior Hurling Championship representing Cork but would later lose the final of the 1901 All-Ireland Hurling Championship to London. Turners Cross (stadium)
Turners Cross is an all-seater football stadium located in and synonymous with the district of Turners Cross in Cork, Ireland. It is owned by the Munster Football Association (MFA), and is used by the MFA and by League of Ireland side Cork City. It was the first all-seated, all-covered stadium in Ireland following redevelopment in 2009, and it is currently one out of only two, the other being the Aviva Stadium. Blackrock were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Redmonds in the first round of the championship. On 6 December 1896, Ballyhea won the championship following a 6-10 to 1-2 defeat of Ballygarvan in the final. This remains their only championship title.
