The 1901–02 Football League season was Aston Villa's 14th season in the Football League First Division, First Division, the top flight 1901–02 in English football, in English football at the time. The season fell in what was to be called Aston Villa F.C., Villa's golden era. On Wednesday 25 December 1901, Villa won 3–2 away to 1901–02 Everton F.C. season, Everton in front of a crowd of 18,000 at Goodison Park. Aston Villa F
Aston is an area of inner Birmingham, England. Located immediately to the north-east of Central Birmingham, Aston constitutes a ward within the metropolitan authority. It is approximately 1.5 miles from Birmingham City Centre. History Aston was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as "Estone", having a mill, a priest and therefore probably a church, woodland and ploughland. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built in medieval times to replace an earlier church. The body of the church was rebuilt by J. A. Chatwin during the period 1879 to 1890; the 15th century tower and spire, which was partly rebuilt in 1776, being the only survivors of the medieval building. The ancient parish of Aston (known as Aston juxta Birmingham) was large. Jimmy Crabtree
James William Crabtree (23 December 1871–18 June 1908) was a gifted English footballer of the end of the 19th century. Career Crabtree began his career at Burnley, but left in 1890 and played in non-league football for two years before returning to Burnley for the 1892–93 season. His performances attracted the attention of FA Cup holders, Aston Villa, in 1895. He played alongside Howard Spencer at left-half, and went on to share the captaincy of the club with him. He won League Championship medals with Villa in 1897, 1899 and 1900, he also lifted the FA Cup in as a part of the Aston Villa team that completed the Double in 1897. He was capped 11 times by England whilst at Villa. Crabtree joined Plymouth Argyle in January 1904 and made four appearances in the Southern League before injury forced him to retire. He then coached at several non-league clubs and later became a pub licensee in Birmingham. He died suddenly at the age of 36. His death was drink related.''Not T ... Albert Wilkes
Albert Wilkes (6 September 1875 – 9 December 1936) was an English sports photographer and footballer in the early years of professional football in England, who played for Aston Villa from August 1898 to July 1907. Before playing for Villa he played for West Bromwich Albion and Walsall. The Villa News and Record 1 September 1906 Wilkes instantly experienced success at Villa Park, playing a bit part in the club's 1898–99 title success before establishing himself as a first team regular in their 1899–1900 title victory. He was less fortunate in the FA cup where he found himself part of a Villa side beaten in a famous cup upset by Southern League Millwall Athletic. Alf Wood (footballer, Born 1876)
Alfred Josiah Edward Wood (30 June 1876 – 5 April 1919) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Aston Villa, Burslem Port Vale, Derby County and Stoke. He helped Villa to finish second in the First Division in 1902–03, and helped Stoke to reach the FA Cup semi-finals in 1899. Career Wood played for local side Smallthorne Albion, before joining Burslem Port Vale in December 1892, aged 16. He made seven Second Division appearances in the 1892–93 season, claiming two goals in a 4–0 win over Northwich Victoria at the Athletic Ground on 4 March. He was an ever-present for the Vale in the 32 game 1893–94 season, and scored 12 goals in 28 league games. He scored four goals in 28 league games in the 1894–95 campaign. Bert Banks
Herbert Ernest Banks (19 June 1874 – 1947) was an English footballer who made over 40 appearances in the Football League, over 20 appearances in the Scottish League and over 40 appearances in the Southern League, scoring over 60 goals in a career as an inside left. Career Banks played for Everton, St Mirren (on loan for one Scottish Cup tie), Third Lanark, Millwall Athletic, Aston Villa, Bristol City, Watford, Coventry City and Stafford Rangers. Birmingham Senior Cup
The Birmingham Senior Cup is a football competition for Birmingham County FA club teams, organised by the Birmingham County Football Association. It began in 1876 and is the oldest county cup competition still active. The Birmingham Senior Cup is a regional cup contest, which has featured all of the West Midlands' big clubs, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Burton Albion, Coventry City, Port Vale, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Walsall and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
