The 1901 Ole Miss Rebels football team was an American football team that represented the University of Mississippi as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) during the 1901 SIAA football season. In its first season under head coaches William Shibley and Daniel S. Martin, Ole Miss compiled a 2–4 record (0–4 against SIAA opponents) and was outscored by a total of 129 to 34. A seventh game with Christian Brothers was canceled. Right end F. W. Elmer was the team captain. William Shibley
William Albert Shibley (October 7, 1876 – April 27, 1926) was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1901. During his one-season tenure at Ole Miss, Shibley compiled an overall record of two wins and four losses (2–4). Shibley was an alumnus of the University of Virginia. Alabama–Ole Miss Football Rivalry
The Alabama–Ole Miss football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels. They are charter members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and both have competed in the SEC West since 1992. The rivalry dates back to 1894, when Ole Miss defeated Alabama in Jackson, Mississippi. Currently, Alabama leads Ole Miss 54-10-2. The most recent Ole Miss victory was in 2015. The Magnolia Bowl is name given to the LSU–Ole Miss football rivalry. It is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the LSU Tigers football team of Louisiana State University (LSU) and the Ole Miss Rebels football team of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The teams compete for the Magnolia Bowl Trophy. The Tigers and the Rebels first met in 1894, and have been regular opponents in Southeastern Conference (SEC), meeting annually, without interruption, since 1945. State Field
State Field was the home stadium of the Louisiana State University Tigers football team prior to 1924. The field was built on the old downtown campus of LSU. It was located east of the Pentagon Barracks and at the site of the current Louisiana State Capitol Building. Prior to construction of State Field, football games were played on an area called the parade grounds which was located south of the Pentagon Barracks and west of Hill Memorial Library and George Peabody Hall. The field, known on the campus simply as the "athletic field", was later moved to a site with bleachers that was north of the campus' experimental garden, and next to the old armory building. The 1901 LSU Tigers football team represented the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University during the 1901 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. Edmond Chavanne left the Tigers following the 1900 season and was replaced by W. S. Borland as head coach in 1901, leading the team to a successful 5–1 season. Tulane forfeited the game on November 16 due to a ruling from the SIAA. The 1901 edition of the Battle for the Flag against LSU was originally a 22–0 victory for Tulane. It was later forfeited after a petition to the SIAA, and was recorded as a 0–11 loss for Tulane. The Egg Bowl (traditionally named the “Battle for the Golden Egg”) is the name given to the Mississippi State–Ole Miss football rivalry. It is an American college football rivalry game played annually between Southeastern Conference members Mississippi State University and Ole Miss (The University of Mississippi).
