1900 Coupe Van Der Straeten Ponthoz
The 1900 Coupe Van der Straeten Ponthoz was the 1st staging of the Coupe Van der Straeten Ponthoz, which is regarded as one of the first European trophies. The tournament was held in Brussels, Belgium, between 15 and 17 April 1900. The tournament was won by R.A.P., who played and defeated the reigning champions of Belgium (Racing Club), the Netherlands ( H.V.V.) and Switzerland ( Grasshopper Club) on three successive days. As these three were the only existing leagues in continental Europe at the time, the local newspapers dubbed the tournament the club championship of the continent, and thus, R.A.P. might be considered the first ever continental European Champions. AVV RAP, in the long form Amsterdamsche Voetbalvereeniging RUN, Amstels, Progress, was a Dutch football club based in Amsterdam, who played in the Netherlands Football League Championship. The club existed from 1887 to 1914 and was the first cup champion of the Netherlands in the 1898–99 season. The Parisian clubs do not participate, arguing that Le Havre AC had not been crowned champion of its region. But still, Havre played and after beating Iris Club Lillois in the semi-finals they were proclaimed champions as Club français, a club from Paris refused to play the final. Willem Hesselink
Willem Frederik Hesselink (8 February 1878 – 1 December 1973) was a Dutch football player and one of the founders of local club Vitesse Arnhem in 1892. He was known for his blue woolen cap, which he seemed to wear day and night, and was nicknamed ''the Cannon'', although he was also referred to as ''the Doctor'' because of his doctorate in chemistry. Career In 1890, Hesselink had been part of an attempt to get a cricket club off the ground in Arnhem and two years later he was one of the founders of Vitesse Arnhem. Cricket was the initial activity of choice but football took over quickly and Hesselink was soon the star of the team. Hesselink also excelled in athletics, holding several national records including the long jump. A team made up of him and his brothers became national champions in tug of war. Miel Mundt
Emil "Miel" Gustav Mundt (30 May 1880 in Soekaboemi, Dutch East Indies – 17 July 1949 in Rotterdam) was a Dutch football player who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. In the Netherlands, he played for H.V.V. (Hague Football Club). Biography He spent his entire playing career at H.V.V., winning the Dutch championship several times. In 1900, Mundt was a member of the H.V.V. side that participated in the first edition of the Coupe Van der Straeten Ponthoz in 1900, regarded by many as the first-ever European club trophy. In the tournament, he scored one goal in the first round in an 8–1 trashing of hosts Léopold FC. He was the captain of the Dutch team team at the 1908 Summer Olympics, helping his nation win the bronze medal in the football tournament. Hendrik van Heuckelum (6 May 1879, The Hague – 28 April 1929, The Hague), nicknamed Henk, was a Dutch footballer who played as a forward for HBS-Craeyenhout and Royal Léopold Club, and who represented Belgium at the 1900 Summer Olympics, winning the bronze medal in the football tournament. HFC Haarlem
HFC Haarlem was a Dutch football club from the city of Haarlem, established in 1889 and dissolved in 2010. The club won the Eredivisie in 1946 and reached five Cup finals, winning in 1902 and 1912.
