18th Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The 18th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the Saskatchewan general election held in June 1975. The assembly sat from November 12, 1975, to September 19, 1978. The New Democratic Party (NDP) led by Allan Blakeney formed the government. The Liberal Party led by David Steuart formed the official opposition. Edward Malone replaced Steuart as party leader in 1976. After the Progressive Conservative Party won two by-elections and convinced two Liberal members to defect in 1977, the Progressive Conservative Party led by Richard Lee Collver shared the role of official opposition with the Liberals. 1975 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1975 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 11, 1975, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. Blakeney and the NDP were re-elected to a majority government. Both the New Democratic government of Premier Allan Blakeney and the opposition Liberal Party, led by David Steuart, dropped in support to the resurgent Progressive Conservative Party. The Tories, who were a minor force in the previous election, drew over a quarter of the 1975 electorate. Campaign One of the main issues of the campaign was natural resources management. On the onset of the campaign, Saskatchewan was facing court challenges and a capital strike from multinational resource extraction companies. Biggar is a former provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centred on the town of Biggar. This district was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912. The riding was dissolved and combined with the Rosetown district to form Rosetown-Biggar before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. It was the constituency of Premier Woodrow S. Lloyd. It is now part of the Biggar-Sask Valley constituency. Cyril Pius MacDonald
Cyril Pius "Cy" MacDonald (February 29, 1928 – November 14, 2015) was an educator and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Milestone from 1964 to 1975 and Qu'Appelle-Wolseley from 1975 to 1978 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and educated in Saskatoon, at Notre Dame College in Wilcox and at St. Francis Xavier University, where he received a BEd degree. In 1951, he married Ann Sullivan. MacDonald taught school in Yorkton and in Wilcox. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Saskatchewan assembly in 1960 before being elected in 1964. MacDonald served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Industry and Commerce and as Minister of Welfare. MacDonald ran for the leadership of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party in 1971. Qu'Appelle-Wolseley is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was created before the 8th Saskatchewan general election in 1934 by combining the constituencies of South Qu'Appelle and Wolseley. Redrawn and renamed "Indian Head-Wolseley" in 1975, the riding was dissolved before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. Humboldt was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in central Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Estevan is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city of Estevan (pop. 10,084) is the largest centre in the constituency. Miro Kwasnica (born June 13, 1935) is a retired educator, driving instructor and political figure in Saskatchewan.
