18 Days (film)
''18 Days'' ( arz, ١٨ يوم, translit. Tamantashar Yom) is an Egyptian anthology film focusing on the 18 days of the 2011 Egyptian revolution. It premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. A group of ten directors, twenty or so actors, six writers, eight directors of photography, eight sound engineers, five set designers, three costume designers, seven editors, three post-production companies, and about ten technicians have agreed to act fast and shoot, with no budget and on a voluntary basis, ten short films about the January 25 revolution in Egypt. Ten stories they have experienced, heard or imagined. All the proceeds of this movie will be devoted to organizing convoys to provide political and civic education in the villages of Egypt. Ahmad Abdalla
Ahmad Abdalla El Sayed Abdelkader ( ar, أحمد عبد الله السيد) (born on December 19, 1979, Cairo) is an Egyptian film director, editor and screenwriter. His debut feature film is ''Heliopolis (2009 film), Heliopolis'' (2009); his second film is ''Microphone (film), Microphone'' (2010). He studied music in the 1990s and began working as a film editor in 1999. He moved to feature-length films in 2002 and began doubling as a visual effects supervisor and credits designer. He was winner of the Best First screenplay Award of Sawiris Foundation in Cairo 2008 for ''Heliopolis''. His upcoming film ''Rags and Tatters'' has been selected to be screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. 2011 Cannes Film Festival
The 64th Cannes Film Festival was held from 11 to 22 May 2011. American actor Robert De Niro served as the president of the jury for the main competition and French filmmaker Michel Gondry headed the jury for the short film competition. South Korean film director Bong Joon-ho was the head of the jury for the Caméra d'Or prize, which is awarded to the best first-time filmmaker. The American film ''The Tree of Life (film), The Tree of Life'', directed by Terrence Malick won the Palme d'Or. The 2011 Egyptian revolution, also known as the 25 January revolution ( ar, ثورة ٢٥ يناير; ), began on 25 January 2011 and spread across Egypt. The date was set by various youth groups to coincide with the annual Egyptian "Police holiday" as a statement against increasing police brutality during the last few years of Hosni Mubarak's presidency. It consisted of demonstrations, marches, occupations of plazas, non-violent civil resistance, acts of civil disobedience and strike action, strikes. Millions of protesters from a range of socio-economic and religious backgrounds demanded the overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Violent clashes between security forces and protesters resulted in at least 846 people killed and over 6,000 injured. Protesters retaliated by burning over 90 police stations across the country. Kamla Abou Zikri
Kamla Abou Zekry (born January 8, 1974) is an Egyptian television and film director who directed well-known movies and TV series such as ''Bent Esmaha Zaat'', ''Segn El Nisaa'', and ''Wahed Sefr''. She has taken part in many international and national film festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival, the Dubai International Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival. Her films have also been screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Life Abou Zekry was born in Cairo, Egypt. She graduated from the High Cinema Institute, and started her film career by collaborating with Nadel Galal on ''131 Ashghal'' in 1993.
