American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. Oskaloosa is a city in, and the county seat of, Mahaska County, Iowa, United States. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Oskaloosa was a national center of bituminous coal mining. The population was 11,558 in the 2020 U.S. Census, an increase from 10,938 in 2000. Grinnell is a city in Poweshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 9,564 at the time of the 2020 census. It is best known for being the home of Grinnell College. History Grinnell was founded by settlers from New England who were descended from English Puritans of the 1600s. Grinnell was founded in 1854 by four men: Josiah B. 1899 Nebraska Bugeaters Football Team
The 1899 Nebraska Bugeaters football team represented the University of Nebraska in the 1899 college football season. The team was coached by first-year head coach Alonzo Edwin Branch and played their home games at Antelope Field in Lincoln, Nebraska. They competed as an independent. Following the departure of Fielding H. Yost following the 1898 season, Nebraska hired Branch, a recent graduate of Williams College with little football coaching experience. In his only season as head coach, Branch led Nebraska to its first losing season, and only sub-.500 record in its first 38 years of football. This was NU's final season as the "Bugeaters", as the university officially changed its nickname to "Cornhuskers" in 1900. McCook Field (stadium)
McCook Field was a stadium in Lawrence, Kansas. It hosted the University of Kansas Jayhawks football team until they moved to Memorial Stadium in 1921. The stadium held 15,000 people at its peak and was opened in 1892. The stadium was financed by John James McCook. The Jayhawks current stadium, David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, was built at the site of McCook Field. 1899 Kansas Jayhawks Football Team
The 1899 Kansas Jayhawks football team represented the University of Kansas in the 1899 college football season. In their first and only season under head coach Fielding H. Yost, the Jayhawks compiled an undefeated 10–0 record, shut out six of their ten opponents, scored 280 points (28.0 points per games) and allowed only 37 points (3.7 points per game). The season included victories over (12–0 and 18–0), Drake (29–5), Nebraska (36–20), and Missouri (34–6). Bennie Owen, who later coached at Oklahoma for 22 years, was the team's quarterback, and Hubert Avery was the team captain.
