Andrew Bird Glaspie (November 21, 1876 – September 3, 1943) was an American soldier, politician, newspaper publisher, and college football player and coach. Early years Glaspie was born in November 1876 at Oxford, Michigan. His father, Andrew P. Glaspie, operated a general store in Oxford and was a clothier, Civil War veteran, and Michigan native. His mother, Amy (Bird) Glaspie, was also a Michigan native. Ypsilanti (), commonly shortened to Ypsi, is a city in Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 20,648. 1897 Michigan Wolverines Football Team
The 1897 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan in the 1897 Western Conference football season. In its first season under head coach Gustave Ferbert, the team compiled a 6–1–1 record (2–1 against conference opponents), finished third in the Western Conference, and outscored opponents by a total of 166 to 31. The team suffered its first setback with a scoreless tie against Ohio Wesleyan in the second game of the season. The season also featured the first game between Michigan and Ohio State, with Michigan winning the game by a score of 34 to 0. Michigan won its first two Western Conference games against Purdue (34–4) and Minnesota (14–0), but lost the final game of the season to Amos Alonzo Stagg's Chicago Maroons by a score of 21 to 12. Regents Field
Ferry Field (known as Regents Field before 1902) was the home field for the University of Michigan football team from 1893 to 1905. It was located along South State Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Schembechler Hall stands today. The Board of Regents of the University of Michigan authorized $3,000 in 1890 (equivalent to $,000 in ) for the purchase of land to build a new football field. The following May, they added $4,500 more (equivalent to $,000 in ) "for the purpose of fitting up the athletic field." The facility was simply named "the Athletic Field" upon completion.
