Stuart Field
Stuart Field was a stadium at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States. It was the home field of the Purdue Boilermakers football team from 1892 until 1924 when Ross–Ade Stadium opened. Purdue's baseball team continued to play at Stuart Field until 1939. The Elliott Hall of Music is located at Stuart Field's former site, while the west grand stand of the field was adjacent to the Purdue Armory. The field was dedicated on April 16, 1892, and named for Charles B. and William V. Stuart, two brothers who served on the university's board of trustees. Originally a seven-acre (2.8 ha) field with 800 seats, by the 1910s it was expanded to twice that area and a seating capacity of 5,000. Stuart Field was also used for special events, including a biplane demonstration on June 13, 1911, which attracted 17,000 spectators. The 1895 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team represented the University of Minnesota as an independent the 1895 college football season. It was the only season under head coach Pudge Heffelfinger. On January 11, 1895, the Presidents of several schools met in a preliminary meeting and formed a group which would become the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives, known today as the Big Ten Conference. As a result of this emerging conference, this season was Minnesota's last season as an independent. Minnesota won its first ever match with Chicago with a last minute touchdown to win a very close, physical game by a score of 10–6. Financially, the team rebounded from some lean years. The Illinois–Purdue football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Illinois Fighting Illini football team of the University of Illinois and Purdue Boilermakers football team of Purdue University. History It all started in 1905 when a group of Purdue students took the Cannon to Champaign in anticipation of firing it to celebrate a Boilermaker victory. Ferry Field (known as Regents Field before 1902) was the home field for the University of Michigan football team from 1893 to 1905. It was located along South State Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Schembechler Hall stands today. The Board of Regents of the University of Michigan authorized $3,000 in 1890 (equivalent to $,000 in ) for the purchase of land to build a new football field. The following May, they added $4,500 more (equivalent to $,000 in ) "for the purpose of fitting up the athletic field." The facility was simply named "the Athletic Field" upon completion. The 1895 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan in the 1895 college football season. In its second and final season under head coach William McCauley, the team compiled an 8–1 record, won seven of their games by shutouts, and outscored their opponents by a combined score of 266 to 14. The 1895 Wolverines won their first five games by a combined score of 220 to 0. The sole loss of the season was a 4–0 setback against the Harvard Crimson, then one of the three great football powers.
