In their first and only season under head coach Matthew McClung, the Midshipmen compiled a 5–2 record and outscored their opponents by a combined score of 152 to 16. Matthew McClung
Matthew Henry McClung Jr. (December 1, 1868 – March 3, 1908), sometimes referred to as Dibby McClung, was an American college football player, coach and official. Born into a powerful southern family, McClung was raised in Memphis, Tennessee until he was accepted into Lehigh University. Immediately establishing himself as a skilled sportsman, McClung participated on both the school's football and baseball teams. He served as captain of the former in 1892 and is credited with turning it into one of the school's best ever football squads. McClung graduated from Lehigh in 1893 with degrees in metallurgy and mining engineering. After graduating, McClung took a position as the coach of the Naval Academy football team. He served for one season, leading the team to a 5-2 record against a mediocre schedule. Following the season, he started his career as a college football referee which would span twelve years. Worden Field
Worden Field is a large grass field located on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. First mentioned in 1890, the field served as the home stadium for the academy's Midshipmen football team from that year through 1923, replaced by Thompson Stadium in 1924. Since the early 1900s, the field has hosted all of the academy's various yearly parades and many of its drills. It has progressively grown smaller, due to the addition of buildings and roads within the academy. The field is bordered on all four sides by small academy roads. On two of its sides, it is surrounded by officers' quarters and is bounded by a parking lot and the Severn River on its other two borders. It has rows of bleachers located along its south side and has long contained a small gazebo on its east side. The 1895 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1895–96 academic year. The 1895 Penn Quakers football team, led by head coach George Washington Woodruff, compiled a perfect 14–0 record and is recognized as the 1895 national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, and National Championship Foundation. One selector, Parke H. Davis, recognized both Penn and Yale as co-national champions. Yale compiled a 13–0–2 record.
