1895 LSU Football Team
The 1895 LSU football team represented Louisiana State University (LSU) during the 1895 college football season. Coach Albert Simmonds, in his last year at LSU, guided the Tigers to an undefeated season, the first in program history. The season also featured the first home victory in LSU history with a win over Tulane in front of 1,500 spectators. A contemporary account reads "The Tulane football team, with its band of shouters and several crippled players, returned to the city yesterday morning wearing dejected faces, as a result of the defeat administered at Baton Rough Saturday." LSU joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) in 1895, and began playing as part of the conference in 1896. Albert Simmonds
Albert Price Simmonds (October 29, 1875 – November 13, 1953) was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Louisiana State University (LSU) for two seasons from 1894 to 1895, the second and third seasons in the LSU Tigers football, LSU Tigers football program's existence, compiling a record of 5–1. Simmons was a graduate of Yale University. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1875 and later was an insurance agent in New York City. In 1951, at the age of 76, Simmonds was working for the Hygienic Phone Service. He died on November 13, 1953. State Field
State Field was the home stadium of the Louisiana State University Tigers football team prior to 1924. The field was built on the old downtown campus of LSU. It was located east of the Pentagon Barracks and at the site of the current Louisiana State Capitol Building. Prior to construction of State Field, football games were played on an area called the parade grounds which was located south of the Pentagon Barracks and west of Hill Memorial Library and George Peabody Hall. The field, known on the campus simply as the "athletic field", was later moved to a site with bleachers that was north of the campus' experimental garden, and next to the old armory building. 1896 LSU Tigers Football Team
The 1896 LSU Tigers football team represented Louisiana State University (LSU) during the 1896 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. This was LSU's first season playing as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). The Tigers, led by coach Allen Jeardeau, went undefeated and were the SIAA co-champions. It was LSU's second undefeated season in football. The 1896 team was also the first LSU team to use the nickname "Tigers". Before the season Allen Jeardeau was hired as head coach. 1895 College Football Season
The 1895 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1895–96 academic year. The 1895 Penn Quakers football team, led by head coach George Washington Woodruff, compiled a perfect 14–0 record and is recognized as the 1895 national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, and National Championship Foundation. One selector, Parke H. Davis, recognized both Penn and Yale as co-national champions. Yale compiled a 13–0–2 record. In the Midwest, Michigan led the way with an 8–1 record, the only loss coming in a road game against Harvard. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) was one of the first collegiate athletic conferences in the United States. Battle For The Rag
The Battle for the Rag is the name given to the LSU–Tulane football rivalry. It is an American college football rivalry game played by the LSU Tigers football team of Louisiana State University and the Tulane Green Wave football team of Tulane University. The game was played nearly every year since its inception in 1893, with the last of ninety-eight games being played in 2009. Tulane and LSU spent much of their athletic histories as members of the same conference: the SIAA from 1899 to 1920, the Southern Conference from 1922 to 1932, and as charter members of the SEC from 1932 to 1966. The "Rag" The winner is awarded a satin trophy flag known as the Tiger Rag at LSU and the Victory Flag at Tulane. Jackson, Louisiana
Jackson is a town in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,842 at the 2010 U.S. census, down from 4,130 in 2000; the 2020 population estimates program determined Jackson had a population of 3,707. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area.
