Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) is an athletic conference that competes in the NCAA's Division III. There are nine teams in the conference, all located in the states of Michigan and Indiana. The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association was established on March 24, 1888, making it the oldest college athletic conference in the United States. The current members of the MIAA include Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Calvin University, Hope College, Kalamazoo College, Olivet College, Saint Mary's College of Notre Dame, Indiana, and Trine University, formerly known as Tri-State University. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. Olivet College
Olivet College is a private Christian liberal arts college located in Olivet, Michigan. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was founded in 1844 by missionaries from Oberlin College, and it followed Oberlin in becoming the second coeducational college or university in the United States. Olivet College is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches and stands in the Reformed tradition of Protestantism. The 1894 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1894–95 academic year. The 1894 Yale Bulldogs football team compiled a perfect 16–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 485 to 13, and has been recognized as the national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, and National Championship Foundation, and as co-champion by Parke H. Davis. Penn also compiled a perfect record (12–0) and was recognized as the co-national champion by Parke H. Davis. Despite suffering losses to both Yale and Penn, Princeton was recognized as the national champion under the Houlgate System. The 1894 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan in the 1894 college football season. In its first season under head coach William McCauley, the team compiled a 9–1–1 record and outscored its opponents by a combined score of 244 to 84. The Wolverines played two games against Cornell, losing at Ithaca and winning the second game in Detroit. The win over Cornell "marked the first time in collegiate football history that a western school defeated an established power from the east." Regents Field
Ferry Field (known as Regents Field before 1902) was the home field for the University of Michigan football team from 1893 to 1905. It was located along South State Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Schembechler Hall stands today. The Board of Regents of the University of Michigan authorized $3,000 in 1890 (equivalent to $,000 in ) for the purchase of land to build a new football field. The following May, they added $4,500 more (equivalent to $,000 in ) "for the purpose of fitting up the athletic field." The facility was simply named "the Athletic Field" upon completion.
