53rd United States Congress
The 53rd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1893, to March 4, 1895, during the first two years of Grover Cleveland's second presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Eleventh Census of the United States in 1890. The Democrats maintained their majority in the House (albeit reduced) and won back control of the Senate. With Grover Cleveland being sworn in on March 4, 1895 for his second stint as President, this also gave the Democrats an overall federal government trifecta for the first time since the establishment of the Republican Party in 1854. Charles O'Neill (Pennsylvania Politician)
Charles O'Neill (March 21, 1821 – November 25, 1893) was an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 2nd congressional district from 1863 to 1871 and from 1873 to 1893. He served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1850 to 1852 and from 1860 to 1861. He served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 1st district from 1853 to 1854. John Logan Chipman
John Logan Chipman (June 5, 1830 – August 17, 1893) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan who was most notable for his service as a United States representative from 1887 until his death. Early life Chipman was born in Detroit in the Michigan Territory, and attended the public schools of Detroit and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ann Arbor, 1843-1845. He engaged in the Lake Superior region as explorer for the Montreal Mining Co. in 1846 and was assistant clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives in 1853. He studied law and admission to the bar in the United States, admitted to the bar in 1854, practicing in the Lake Superior region. Theobald Otjen
Theobald Otjen (October 27, 1851 – April 11, 1924) was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. Theobald was born to German immigrants John Conrad and Dorothea (Schreiner) Otjen, in west China township in St. Clair County, Michigan and attended the Marine City (Michigan) Academy and a private school in Detroit. He was employed as foreman in the rolling mill of the Milwaukee Iron Co. in Milwaukee 1870–1872. He graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor on March 25, 1875. He was admitted to the bar at Ann Arbor in 1875 and commenced practice in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1883.
