1893 ICA Track Cycling World Championships
The 1893 Track Cycling World Championships were the inaugural world championships for track cycling. Before then there had been events described as world championships but without ratification by a world cycling authority. The creation of the International Cycling Association in 1892 made internationally recognised championships possible. Ernst Emil Ulbricht
Ernst Emil Ulbricht (1864–1900) was a German-born American racing cyclist and winner of the silver medal in the Stayer competition at International Cycling Association's first World Championships in Chicago in 1893. As a road racer he won the time prize in the 1894 and 1895 editions of the Santa Monica Road Race. Death By 1900, Ulbricht was working for the Honolulu Iron Works. Laurens Meintjes (9 June 1868 – 30 March 1941) was a South African track cyclist and winner of the inaugural stayers contest at the 1893 ICA Track Cycling World Championships in Chicago. This victory made him the first African to win a world championship. Meintjes was born in Aberdeen and died in Potgietersrust Mokopane, also known as Potgietersrus, is a town in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
