People's Party (United States)
The People's Party, also known as the Populist Party or simply the Populists, was a left-wing Agrarianism, agrarian populist political party in the United States in the late 19th century. The Populist Party emerged in the early 1890s as an important force in the Southern and Western United States, but collapsed after it nominated Democratic Party (United States), Democrat William Jennings Bryan in the 1896 United States presidential election. A Rump party, rump faction of the party continued to operate into the first decade of the 20th century, but never matched the popularity of the party in the early 1890s. The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The tribe's name (natively ') is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning.
