Joseph-Adolphe Chapleau
Sir Joseph-Adolphe Chapleau (November 9, 1840 – June 13, 1898), born in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, was a French-Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the 7th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1892 to 1898. Life As a lawyer, he defended Ambroise-Dydime Lépine against the charge of murdering Thomas Scott during the Red River Rebellion of 1869–1870. He served as the fifth premier of Quebec, federal Cabinet minister, and the seventh lieutenant governor of Quebec. After the 1878 Quebec election, he was the Leader of the Opposition. He became premier in 1879 after the fall of the minority government of Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière. He won the 1881 election, but resigned on July 29, 1882, to seek election to the federal House of Commons. He won a by-election held on August 16, 1882. Auguste-Réal Angers
Sir Auguste-Réal Angers (4 October 1837 – 14 April 1919) was a Canadian judge and parliamentarian, holding seats both as a member of the House of Commons of Canada, and as a Senator. He was born in 1837 probably in Quebec City and died in Westmount, Quebec, in 1919. He served in the cabinets of Sir John Sparrow David Thompson and Sir Mackenzie Bowell as Minister of Agriculture and as President of the Privy Council under Sir Charles Tupper. He also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec after being elected in Montmorency in 1874 as a Conservative. He was knighted in the 1913 New Year Honours. After his death in 1919, he was entombed at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal. Early life There is an element of mystery around Auguste's birth. George Airey Kirkpatrick
Sir George Airey Kirkpatrick (September 13, 1841 – December 13, 1899) was a politician from Ontario, Canada. Born in 1841 in Kingston, Ontario, the son of Thomas Kirkpatrick, George Kirkpatrick was educated at Trinity College Dublin. Career Kirkpatrick joined the Canadian Militia as a private in 1861 during the Trent Affair and later as an officer and the adjutant in the 14th Battalion of Rifles saw active service during the Fenian Raids in 1866. In 1867, he was promoted to major and joined the newly formed 47th Frontenac Battalion of Infantry and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1872. He retired from the militia in 1890. In 1876, he would command the Canadian rifle team at Wimbledon (London), England, and he was president of the Dominion Rifle Association through the 1880s. Sir Alexander Campbell (March 9, 1822 – May 24, 1892) was an English-born, Upper Canadian statesman and a father of Canadian Confederation. Life Born in Hedon, Yorkshire, he was brought to Canada by his father, who was a doctor, when he was one year old. He was educated in French at St. Hyacinthe in Quebec and in the grammar school at Kingston, Ontario. Campbell studied law and was called to the bar in 1843. He became a partner in John A. Macdonald's law office. Campbell was a Freemason of St. John's Lodge, No. 3 (Ontario) of Kingston (now The Ancient St. John's No. 3). When the government was moved to Quebec in 1858, Campbell resigned. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 1858 and 1864, and served as the last Commissioner of Crown Lands 30 March 1864 – 30 June 1867. Sir Malachy Bowes Daly (February 6, 1836 – April 26, 1920) was a Canadian politician and the seventh Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Early life Born in Quebec City, the son of Sir Dominick Daly, he was called to the bar in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1864.
