Christian IX Of Denmark
Christian IX (8 April 181829 January 1906) was King of Denmark from 1863 until his death in 1906. From 1863 to 1864, he was concurrently Duke of Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg. A younger son of Frederick William, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-GlĂĽcksburg, Christian grew up in the Duchy of Schleswig as a prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-GlĂĽcksburg, a junior branch of the House of Oldenburg which had ruled Denmark since 1448. Although having close family ties to the Danish royal family, he was originally not in the immediate line of succession to the Danish throne. Following the early death of the father in 1831, Christian grew up in Denmark and was educated at the Military Academy of Copenhagen. After unsuccessfully seeking the hand of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom in marriage, he married his double second cousin, Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel, in 1842. In 1852, Christian was chosen as heir-presumptive to the Danish throne in light of the expected ...

Jacob Brønnum Scavenius Estrup
Jacob Brønnum Scavenius Estrup, (16 April 1825 – 24 December 1913), was a Denmark, Danish politician, member of the Højre party. He was Interior Minister (Denmark), Interior Minister from 1865 to 1869 in the Christian Emil Krag-Juel-Vind-Frijs, Cabinet of Frijs and Council President (Denmark), Council President as well as Finance Minister of Denmark, Finance Minister from 1875 to 1894 as the leader of the ''Estrup Cabinet''. At 23 years, he was the longest sitting Danish minister ever. From a Danish historical perspective, he is perhaps most famous (or infamous) for the so-called provisional time (''provisorietiden'') from 1885-1894. After a huge defeat in the 1884 ''Folketinget'' parliamentary election, in which the Højre party only gained 19 out of 102 seats, he simply refused to resign as Head of Government. (The title "''konseilspresident''" has later been changed to "''statsminister''" but both titles are equivalent to Prime Minister) He then wasn't able to get p ...

Johanne Luise Heiberg (; nĂ©e Pätges; 22 November 1812 â€“ 21 December 1890) was a Danish actress of the 19th century. She is most famous for her work at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, where she achieved great success. Though she was closely connected to the romantic tradition, Heiberg is still regarded as a key figure of Danish drama. She contributed to the growing public social and moral perception of Danish actors as artists and cultural personalities rather than simply performers. Early life Heiberg was second youngest of nine children born to German emigrants. Her father Christian Heinrich Pätges was Roman Catholic, her mother Henriette (nĂ©e Hartwig or Hirschborn) was Jewish. She showed artistic gifts very early and entered ballet school in 1820. With the help of patrons she was promoted to the rank of an actress and made a successful debut in 1827. From then on she was considered a leading actress of Danish theatre. Niels Gade
Niels Wilhelm Gade (22 February 1817 – 21 December 1890) was a Danish composer, conductor, violinist, organist and teacher. Together with Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann, he was the leading Danish musician of his day. Biography Gade was born in Copenhagen, the son of a joiner and instrument maker. He was intended for his father's trade, but his passion for a musician's career, made evident by the ease and skill with which he learnt to play upon a number of instruments, was not to be denied. Though he became proficient on the violin under Frederik Wexschall, and in the elements of theory under Christoph Weyse and Weyse's pupil Andreas Berggreen, he was to a great extent self-taught. He began his professional career as a violinist with the Royal Danish Orchestra, which premiered his concert overture ''Efterklange af Ossian'' ("Echoes of Ossian") in 1841. \ When the performance of his first symphony had to be delayed in Copenhagen, it was sent to Felix Mendelssohn.
