The 1889 South Australian Football Association season was the 13th season of the top-level Australian rules football competition in South Australia. As and finished level on premiership points, the first ever dedicated premiership playoff match in a major Australian rules football competition was held, with winning to claim the 1889 premiership. Adelaide merged with North Adelaide, the former Hotham and no relation to the current team, after North Adelaide had spent one season in the S.A.F.A. South Australian Register
''The Register'', originally the ''South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register'', and later ''South Australian Register,'' was South Australia's first newspaper. It was first published in London in June 1836, moved to Adelaide in 1837, and folded into '' The Advertiser'' almost a century later in February 1931. The newspaper was the sole primary source for almost all information about the settlement and early history of South Australia. It documented shipping schedules, legal history and court records at a time when official records were not kept. According to the National Library of Australia, its pages contain "one hundred years of births, deaths, marriages, crime, building history, the establishment of towns and businesses, political and social comment". South Australian Chronicle
''The Chronicle'' was a South Australian weekly newspaper, printed from 1858 to 1975, which evolved through a series of titles. It was printed by the publishers of '' The Advertiser'', its content consisting largely of reprints of articles and Births, Marriages and Deaths columns from the parent newspaper. Its target demographic was country areas where mail delivery was infrequent, and businesses which serviced those areas. Gawler Football Club
The Gawler Football Club was an Australian rules football club that was founded on 21 August 1868 based at Gawler in the Township of Gawler about 39 km to the north-north east of Adelaide, South Australia. In 1877 it was a foundation club of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed SANFL). It had a period of hiatus from the end of 1880 to 1886 when the club split into Athenian and Havelock. The club joined again this time with Albion and following an application to SAFA the Seniors were admitted for the 1887 SAFA season. However, in the 1890 SAFA season the club where unhappy with the program having only been given 5 home games in Gawler, they subsequently forfeited a number of games including two at Alberton against Port Adelaide, and finished bottom of the ladder with no wins and just two draws. Adelaide Football Club (SAFA)
The Adelaide Football Club, often referred to as the Old Adelaide Football Club, was an Australian rules football club based in Adelaide. Founded on 26 April 1860, it was the first football club formed in South Australia. The club played interclub football in South Australia until 1872, when it had disputes with Kensington and Port Adelaide over the rules, but club resumed interclub matches in 1875. In 1876, the Adelaide Club rules were adopted by all the South Australian clubs at a meeting organised by Charles Kingston from the South Adelaide Football Club, and in 1877, the Adelaide club captain Richard Twopeny called an initial meeting which led to the formation of the South Australian Football Association (SAFA) and participated in the competition from 1877–81 and 1885–93. Norwood Football Club
Norwood Football Club, nicknamed the Redlegs, is an Australian rules football club competing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in the state of South Australia. Alberton Oval
Alberton Oval is located in Alberton, a north-western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. The ground is a public park and is exclusively leased to the Port Adelaide Football Club for Australian rules football. History With the nearby Queenstown Oval built upon in 1876, the Alberton and Queenstown Council opted to construct a cricketing ground on the land adjacent Brougham Place in 1876. The land was donated by the former Mayor of Port Adelaide, John Formby.
