Sophiahemmet
Sophiahemmet is a private hospital at Norra Djurgården in Stockholm, Sweden. It is associated with the Sophiahemmet University College. Its connection with the royal family goes back to 1884 when nursing education sponsored by Queen Sophia was still being conducted at the university. The private hospital was constructed in 1889 at its current location on Valhallavägen. Amalia Assur
Amalia Assur (June 8, 1803 – 1889) was the first female dentist in Sweden. Amalia Assur was born in Stockholm as the daughter of the Jewish dentist Joel Assur (1753–1837), the Dentist of the Royal Family, who has been referred to as one of the first educated dentists in Sweden, and Esther Moses Heilbuth. Her brother James Assur also became a dentist. Amalia Assur never married, and remained a ''mamsell''. She was educated in dentistry by her father and active as his assistant early on. As an assistant dentist, her position was an informal one, and Assur was eventually reported to the authorities for practicing without a license. In 1852, she was given special dispensation from the Royal Board of Health (''Kongl. Sundhetskollegiet'') to practice independently as a dentist. Sofia Charlotta Wilkens née ''Thomée'' (December 14, 1817 – March 22, 1889) was a Swedish pedagogue. She is counted as a pioneer in the education of students with intellectual disability, as well as deaf and mute students. Elma Ström
Elma Charlotta Ström (3 April 1822, Bro – 14 July 1889, Stockholm), was a Swedish opera singer. Life Elma Ström was born in Bro in Uppland, the daughter of a farmer, and was raised in the home of a relative, the parish vicar Ekström on Mörkö. Ekström socialized with the local aristocracy and Elma Ström entertained his guests with singing. She attracted attention for her ability as a singer, and it was suggested that she perform for an expert. In 1836, she was accepted as a student in the operatic class of the ''Dramatens elevskola'' after demonstrating her ability to Isak Albert Berg. She was lodged in the pension of Kristina Fundin, mother of Wilhelmina Fundin, and friend of her fellow student Jenny Lind. One day Elma Ström and Jenny Lind left the Fundins', from which the students were normally not allowed to leave without permission, to travel around the city in a carriage. Alice Habsburg
Alice Habsburg ( pl, Alicja Elżbieta Ankarcrona) (18 December 1889 – 26 November 1985) was a Swedish-born aristocrat and member of the Polish Home Army during World War II. Early life and first marriage Born ''Alice Elisabeth Ankarcrona'' in Hölö, Sweden, she was the daughter of Oscar Carl Gustav Ankarcrona. She grew up in Sweden. In 1911, she married Count Ludwig Badeni, a diplomat working at the Austro-Hungarian legation in Stockholm. During their engagement, she converted to Catholicism. The couple had a single son, Kasimir Badeni, born 1912. Shortly after his birth, Ludwig Badeni started to suffer from mental illness and was taken to a mental hospital. He died in 1916. Her son Kasimir inherited his father's manor house and estate in Busk, today in Ukraine. Alice was shocked by the poverty in Austrian Galicia and sold off most of her jewelry to invest in welfare and economic improvements at her Busk estates. At the end of World War I she was in Vienna.
