Ellen Fries
Ellen Fries (23 September 1855 – 31 March 1900) was a Swedish feminist and writer. She became the first female Ph.D. in Sweden in 1883. She was also involved in founding several women's organizations. Biography She born in 1855 at Rödslegård in Törnsfall, Kalmar County, to Colonel Patrik Constantin Fries and Beata Maria Borgström. She studied at the Åhlinska flickskolan, and graduated with a professional degree from Wallinska skolan in Stockholm 19 May 1874. She studied language and art by travelling to Paris and Leipzig and was a language teacher at Wallinska skolan in 1875–1877. The universities in Sweden had been opened to both genders in 1870. Fries enlisted as a student at Uppsala University 12 October 1877. She studied history, Nordic language and political science and was given the scholarship Kraemerska stipendiet. Cecilia Fryxell
Ulrica Cecilia Fryxell (14 August 1806 – 6 May 1883) was a Swedish educator and principal, regarded as a pioneer within the education of girls in Sweden. The girls' school in Sweden from the mid-19th century onward was influenced by her methods. Biography Fryxell was born in Kantenberg, Vassända-Naglum, in 1806. Her father was Gustaf Fryxell and mother Catharina Maria Liljegren and her grandfather Jöns Olof Fryxell. She was a relative of the poet and educator Anders Fryxell. Erik Gustaf Granfelt (17 November 1883 – 18 February 1962) was a Swedish gymnast who competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics. IS Lyckans Soldater (full name Idrotssällskapet Lyckans Soldater, commonly abbreviated LS) are a now defunct Swedish sports club located in Gothenburg, mostly remembered for its contribution for introducing association football to Sweden. The club was founded in 1883 but did not play football until 1888, and at that time the code played was Swedish football, not association football. They were then one of two teams in the first association football match played in Sweden in 1892, the other team being Örgryte IS. The football section of the club merged with Göteborgs Velocipedklubb and Skridskosällskapet Norden to create Göteborgs IF in 1903. Katarina Elevator
The Katarina Elevator or Katarina Lift ( sv, Katarinahissen) is a passenger elevator in Stockholm that connects Slussen (the sluice/lock area) to the heights of Södermalm. The lift was a shortcut between Katarinavägen, Slussen and Mosebacke torg. The original lift was constructed in 1881, but the current structure dates from the rebuilding of the Slussen transport interchange in 1936. The lift has been closed since 2010 due to lack of security in the construction. The lift will remain closed at least until Projekt Slussen is completed in 2025.
