Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, the mainland territory of which comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Sven Nielsen
Sven Nielsen (18 March 1883 – 21 January 1958) was a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from the Market towns of Vest-Agder and Rogaland counties in 1934, and was re-elected on three occasions. Between 9 March and 25 June 1945 he was appointed Minister of Trade, Shipping, Industry, Crafts and Fisheries. Born in Stavanger, Nielsen was a member of Harstad city council from 1919 to 1922, and then served as mayor from 1922 to 1925. He later held various positions in Stavanger city council from 1934 to 1947, except for a period between 1940 and 1945 during the German occupation of Norway. Having graduated as cand.philos. 1903, he worked as a teacher and CEO. Ole Andreas Lilloe-Olsen (27 April 1883 – 29 April 1940) was a Norway, Norwegian rifle shooting sports, shooter who competed in the early 20th century in rifle shooting. With his five gold medals and one silver medal, he is the Norwegian athlete with the most medals at the Summer Olympics. Jakob Johan Sigfrid Friis (27 April 1883 – 12 December 1956) was a Norwegian journalist, publicist, historian and archivist. He was a newspaper editor and member of the Norwegian Parliament. Biography Jakob Friis was born in Røros in Sør-Trøndelag as the son of Jakob Pavels Friis (1827–1912) and Johanne Berg (1850–1924). He graduated cand.philol. degree in history from the University of Oslo in 1909. He spoke English, French, German and Russian fluently and spent his professional career as a journalist and a state archivist. Jørgen Stubberud
Jørgen Stubberud (17 April 1883 – 12 February 1980) was a Norwegian polar explorer who participated in the Amundsen Antarctica Expedition between 1910 and 1912. Stubberud was born at Bekkensten, Svartskog in Oppegård, in Akershus county, Norway. He first met with Roald Amundsen at the latter's home in Svartskog in 1909, when he was employed as a carpenter to repair some old houses. Stubberud obviously did the job well, as Amundsen afterward asked him to construct Framheim in his garden. The task given was: "It should be a winter quarters, five meters long, four meters wide and five meters high. Figure out the rest yourself!" When the job was done and Amundsen was satisfied with the work, the cabin was dismantled and prepared for shipment with the vessel ''Fram''. Stubberud himself seized the opportunity and asked Amundsen for permission to join the expedition, which was granted. Olav Midttun
Olav Midttun (8 April 1883 – 5 January 1972) was a Norwegian philologist, biographer, magazine editor, and the first national program director of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). He was born in Mauranger as a son of teacher Jørgen Midttun (1855–1938) and Marta Øvrehus (1847–1920). He was a brother of Gisle Midttun. He was married twice, first from October 1909 to Mietze Bentsen, née Sandkuhl (1877–1942), then from 1950 to Borghild Skarmann. He edited the cultural magazine '' Syn og Segn'' for more than fifty years, from 1908 to 1960. He was program manager of NRK from its start in 1933. He was fired in 1940 by the Nazi regime during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, and returned after the Second World War as program manager from 1945 to 1947. He was later a professor at the University of Oslo, and wrote several biographies.
