The 1880–81 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. It includes the East of Scotland District versus West of Scotland District trial match. History It was planned that a new district fixture be played this season. A North versus South fixture, but owing to weather it had to wait another season. From the Aberdeen Press and Journal of 19 December 1881, recalling events of this season: For half a dozen years or so, the Aberdeenshire have been members of the Union RU and up to the present time neither they nor the numerous provincial clubs throughout Scotland have procured any practical benefit from their connection with that body unless (if we may say so) the pleasure of contributing annually a guinea annually towards its funds. 1879–80 Scottish Districts Season
The 1879–80 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. It includes the East of Scotland District versus West of Scotland District trial match. History The Inter-City match was due to be played on 1 December 1879 but was postponed due to frost. The 20 December match ended in a draw. There was supposed to be an East v Edinburgh District match but it was indefinitely postponed as Edinburgh wanted the match played in Edinburgh; or, if away, the match to be played in Perth with the provincial clubs to pay their own expenses. Edinburgh District (rugby Union)
Edinburgh District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Edinburgh area, as well as others from the rest of east central Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Lothian regional council area. Historically the Edinburgh District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Edinburgh District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Glasgow District rugby union team. The amateur Edinburgh District side evolved into the professional Edinburgh Rugby side in 1996; one year after rugby union allowed professionalism in 1995. Hamilton Crescent
Hamilton Crescent is a cricket ground in the Partick area of Glasgow, Scotland, which is the home of the West of Scotland Cricket Club. Hamilton Crescent hosted the first international football match, between Scotland and England, played on 30 November 1872, which ended in a goalless draw, and was watched by a crowd of 4,000. A plaque on the wall of the clubhouse was placed to commemorate the match in 2002 by Mr John C McGinn, President of the Scottish Football Association. Further international matches were held here in 1874 and 1876, before being moved to the first Hampden Park. The 1881–82 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. It includes the East of Scotland District versus West of Scotland District trial match. After last season's failed attempt to get a North v South fixture played, it was proposed that now 3 new district fixtures be played.
