Auguste Philippe de Peellaert (Bruges, March 12, 1793 – Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, April 16, 1876) was a Belgian officer who, after his military career, became a painter, composer, and writer. Biography Auguste de Peellaert hailed from an important aristocratic family, members of which had held important offices in Bruges. His father, Anselme de Peellaert, was appointed chamberlain to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1810, and moved with his wife and three children to Paris. Living well above their means, they moved back to Bruges in 1814, where the father died in 1817. From 1809 to 1812 Auguste was boarded in Paris with a man named Lemoine, in the rue Neuve de Berry near the Champs Elysées. In 1815 he began his military career in the Netherlands army. A family member, Pius de Crombrugghe (secretary in the cabinet of Willem I), got him a commission as sous-lieutenant. Marie Thérèse Haze
Jeanne Haze (27 February 1782 – 7 January 1876), also known by her religious name Marie-Thérèse of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was a Belgian Roman Catholic professed religious and the foundress of the Daughters of the Cross. Haze decided to respond to the lack of education in her homeland in the chaos resulting from the French Revolution and made that the focus of her religious apostolate; she served as her order's Superior General from its founding until her death. Her beatification cause opened in 1911 under Pope Pius X while Pope Pius XII later titled her as Venerable in 1941; Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1991. Rodolphe Seeldrayers
Rodolphe William Seeldrayers (December 16, 1876 – October 7, 1955) was a Belgian football administrator who was the fourth President of FIFA, serving from 1954 to 1955. He was actively involved in the official associations of Belgium sports. Early life Born in 1876 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Seeldrayers studied law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (''Free University of Brussels''), where he began his sporting activities. At 19 he was one of the founders of the ''Union royale belge des Sociétés de football association'' (URBSFA), or ''Royal Belgian Union of the Football Association Societies'', for which he was the treasurer for four years and a member of the Executive Counsel for 25 years. He was later elected as a member of honour. In 1914, the Union used his talents as an orator and named him a delegate to FIFA, of which he was made vice-president in 1927. Baron Frédéric Joseph Vandemeulebroek (often spelled Van de Meulebroeck; 17 November 1876 – 14 December 1958) was a Belgian Liberal politician and burgomaster of Brussels between 1939 and 1942 and again between 1944 and 1956. Personal life and family Jef Vandemeulebroek was the son of Franciscus-Xaverius Vandemeulebroek, a travelling salesman, and Anna Maria Ludovica Bosmans. After receiving a degree in Medicine from the Free University of Brussels in 1901, he set up a practice in Laeken. On his death-bed in October 1958, he married his long-term companion Louisa Degueldre (1898–1985), with whom he had had a son, Jacques, who had been born in Ixelles in 1932. Throughout his life, he encountered repeated problems with the accepted spelling of his name. Georges-Émile Lebacq (26 September 1876 – 4 August 1950) was a Belgian painter. Biography A Post-Impressionist and Impressionist painter, Lebacq was alternately a watercolourist, pastellist and portrait, landscape and still life painter. He also painted church interiors (stained-glass windows and paintings). Certain works as "Lumière d'été à Cagnes-sur-Mer" or "Le Repos en Terrasse" are impressionist. Flor Alpaerts ( Antwerp, 12 September 1876 – Antwerp, 5 October 1954) was a Belgian conductor, pedagogue and composer. He graduated from the ''Vlaamse Muziekschool'' in 1901. He was artistic director of the Peter Benoit Foundation, co-director of the Royal Flemish Opera and a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium. As a composer he became the leading Flemish impressionist, with the symphonic poem ''Pallieter'' (1921-1924). Alpaerts left behind an extensive body of work. He first composed in an impressionist style, later expressionist, and finally neo-classical. He drew his inspiration from Flemish life. Peter Benoit was his great model, but he adapted Benoit's principles and gave Flemish music a modern mode of expression and a contemporary face. Thomas Braun (1876–1961) was a Belgian lawyer and French-language poet. He also published under the pen names Bonissart, Brunissart, and Ranhissart. Life Braun was born in Brussels on 8 September 1876, the son of Senator Alexandre Braun and Fanny Marcq. He was educated at the Institut Saint-Louis in Brussels, spending his vacations in the Ardennes at Bagimont (now a subdivision of Vresse-sur-Semois).
