The 1867 Nova Scotia general election was held on 18 September 1867 to elect members of the 24th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was the first general election in Nova Scotia after Confederation, and was won by the Anti-Confederation Party. Queens is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1867 and 2013 and since 2021. It elects one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The electoral district includes the entirety of Queens County and a small part of Annapolis. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Queens-Shelburne. Following the 2019 electoral boundary review, the electoral district was re-created out of Queens-Shelburne. Geography Queens covers of land area. James Daniel Eisenhauer
James Daniel Eisenhauer (January 1, 1832 – November 16, 1896) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Lunenburg in the House of Commons of Canada from 1887 to 1891 as a Liberal member. Early life and education He was born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the son of German immigrants, and was educated there. Career Eisenhauer was a major exporter of fish to the West Indies. He was president of the Lunenburg Marine Association and treasurer for the Nova Scotia Wood Pulp and Paper Company. Mather Byles DesBrisay (March 19, 1828 – April 8, 1900) was a Canadian lawyer, judge, politician, and historian in the Province of Nova Scotia whose collections form the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. A descendant of Captain Théophile de la Cour DesBrisay (1671–1761) whose Huguenot family fled religious persecution in France and settled in Dublin, Ireland before emigrating to Canada, Mather Byles DesBrisay was the great-great-grandson of Thomas DesBrisay, a Lieutenant-Governor of St. John's Island (now Prince Edward Island). He was born in Chester, Nova Scotia and was educated in Halifax and Dartmouth. Trained in law, in 1851 Mather DesBrisay was admitted to the Bar of Nova Scotia. He eventually set up a law practice in his native Chester but in 1865 made Bridgewater his home. William Dawson Lawrence (16 July 1817 – 8 December 1886) was a successful shipbuilder, businessman and politician. He built the ''William D. Lawrence'', which is reported to be the largest wooden ship ever built in Canada. In 1874, W.D. Lawrence's great ship was reported to have been the largest wooden sailing ship in the world. The William D. Lawrence represents the pinnacle of W.D.'s career as a marine architect, businessman, and politician. He built the ship in Maitland, Hants County, Nova Scotia.
