Victoria Benedictsson
Victoria Benedictsson (March 6, 1850 in Domme – July 21, 1888) was a Swedish author. She was born as Victoria Maria Bruzelius in Domme, a village in the province of Skåne. She wrote under the pen name Ernst Ahlgren. Notable works include ''Pengar'' (1885) and ''Fru Marianne'' (1887). Biography Benedictsson grew up on a farm in Sweden. At 21 she married a 49-year-old widower from Hörby. After an illness left her bed-bound, Benedictsson turned to writing, publishing her first collection of stories, ''Från Skåne,'' in 1884. She is, together with August Strindberg, regarded as one of the greatest proponents of the Swedish realist writing style. In her novels she described the inequality of marriage and often debated women's rights issues in her writings. Current critics see her as an early feminist; earlier the focus was on her love affair with Georg Brandes. Anna Carlström
Anna Carlström, née ''Vickberg'' (13 February 1780 – 1850), was a Swedish procurer and brothel owner. She was the manager of the brothel "London" in Stockholm, one of the two brothels, London and Stadt Hamburg, which were supported by the authorities in a temporary experiment between 1838 and 1841 to control the spread of sexually transmitted disease. She was the owner of one of only two unique brothel licenses ever issued in her country at the time. Anna Carlström published her memoires in 1841. Early life Anna Carlström described her life in her memoirs, published in 1841, which may not give an altogether truthful picture: among other things, she claimed to have been the mother of 22 children. Erik Jansson
Eric or Erik Jansson or Janson (19 December 1808 – 13 May 1850) was the leader of a Swedish Radical Pietism, Radical Pietist sect that emigrated to the United States in 1846. Early and family life Jansson was born in Biskopskulla Church, Biskopskulla parish in Uppland, near Uppsala, Sweden, the son of farmer Jan Mattsson and his wife, Sarah Eriksdotter. He was a frail child, and became interested in reforming the state Lutheranism, Lutheran Church of Sweden as an adolescent. Believing that he was miraculously cured of rheumatism after experiencing a vision at age 22, Jansson became devoutly religious, and began reading works of the German mystic Johann Arndt. Elisabeth Forsselius
Gertrud Elisabeth Forsselius née ''Forsell'', also called Forselia, later known as Elisabet Haeffner and Elisabet Fahlgren (23 January 1771 – 15 February 1850), was a Swedish stage actress and opera singer. She belonged to the pioneer generation of the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Life Elisabeth Forsselius is believed to have been the daughter of the clerk Jacob Forssell (d. 1807) and Anna Magdalena Schylander (1778-1848). She was the sister of the opera singer Gustava Rebecka Forsselia (1772-?). She married the composer Johann Christian Friedrich Hæffner in 1787, divorced him in 1807 and remarried the opera singer Johan Jacob Fahlgren (1786-1848), who had previously been the student of her husband and their tenant, the following year. Calla Curman
Calla Curman, née ''Lundström'' (1850–1935), was a Swedish writer, salon-holder and feminist. She was also the founder of Stångehuvud nature reserve and one of the five founders of the women's association Nya Idun. Family Calla Curman was born on 12 November 1850 in Jönköping, Sweden, the only child of wealthy industrialist and his wife Sofie Malmberg (1830–1897). She received in-home tutoring from a private tutor. At the age of 17, she married Adolf Liljenroth (1836–1874), a battalion physician, with whom she had two children, and . A few years after she was widowed by Liljenroth, Calla's parents took her on a trip to Italy.
