Joaquim Pimenta De Castro
Joaquim Pereira Pimenta de Castro, 10th Count of Pimenta de Castro (5 November 1846, in Pias, Monção – 14 May 1918, in Lisbon; ) was a Portuguese army officer and politician. He was a career military officer reaching the position of General, also graduated in mathematics by the University of Coimbra. In 1908, he was nominated commander of the 3rd Military Region, in Porto. After the proclamation of the Republic on 5 October 1910, he was Minister of War, for only two months, in 1911. He had to resign due to the monarchist incursion of Henrique de Paiva Couceiro. An independent, he was chosen by President Manuel de Arriaga to be the President of the Ministry (Prime Minister) of a government, who would rule without the parliament, where the Portuguese Republican Party, led by Afonso Costa had the majority. Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro
Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (21 March 1846 – 23 January 1905; spelled Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro in older Portuguese orthography) was a Portuguese artist known for his illustration, caricatures, sculpture, and ceramics designs. Bordalo Pinheiro created the popular cartoon character Zé Povinho (1875) and is considered the first Portuguese comics creator. Life Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro was a disciple of his father, the painter Manuel Maria Bordalo Pinheiro. His mother was Donna Maria Augusta do Ó Carvalho Prostes and his brother the painter Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro. He started publishing illustrations and political caricatures in humoristic magazines such as ''A Berlinda'' and ''O Calcanhar de Aquiles'' (the first satirical cartoon pamphlet in Portugal), frequently demonstrating a sarcastic humour with a political or social message. This is a list of Portuguese monarchs who ruled from the establishment of the Kingdom of Portugal, in 1139, to the deposition of the Portuguese monarchy and creation of the Portuguese Republic with the 5 October 1910 revolution. Through the nearly 800 years in which Portugal was a monarchy, the kings held various other titles and pretensions. Two kings of Portugal, Ferdinand I and Afonso V, also claimed the crown of Castile. The Emboscada (Portuguese language, Portuguese - Ambush) was a palace coup of 6 October 1846, by which queen Maria II of Portugal, Maria II deposed the government presided over by Pedro de Sousa Holstein, 1st Duke of Palmela, that had been installed on 20 May that year as a result of the Revolution of Maria da Fonte. By thus dismissing the government of Palmela, that had only come to power 5 months earlier, and replacing it with a Cartista government (described as government of the Cabrais without António Bernardo da Costa Cabral, 1st Marquess of Tomar, Cabral) presided over by João Francisco de Saldanha Oliveira e Daun, 1st Duke of Saldanha, the monarch rekindled the revolt and precipitated the civil war known as the Patuleia.
