Riddarholmsbron (, "The Knights Islet bridge") is a bridge in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden, leading from the square Riddarhustorget on Stadsholmen to the smaller neighbouring island Riddarholmen. History Wooden bridges The first bridge to connect Riddarholmen to Stadsholmen, was a simple wooden bridge leading from Gråmunketornet ("The Greyfriars Tower"). At the time Riddarholmen was still called ''Gråmunkeholmen'' ("The Greyfriars islet"), referring to the franciscan abbey on the island, and the bridge was accordingly called Munkbron ("The Friars Bridge"). Once the name of islet had been changed, Munkbron instead referred to the quay which then faced Riddarholmen. A diode is a two-terminal electronic component that conducts current primarily in one direction (asymmetric conductance); it has low (ideally zero) resistance in one direction, and high (ideally infinite) resistance in the other. A diode vacuum tube or thermionic diode is a vacuum tube with two electrodes, a heated cathode and a plate, in which electrons can flow in only one direction, from cathode to plate. A semiconductor diode, the most commonly used type today, is a crystalline piece of semiconductor material with a p–n junction connected to two electrical terminals. Semiconductor diodes were the first semiconductor electronic devices. The discovery of asymmetric electrical conduction across the contact between a crystalline mineral and a metal was made by German physicist Ferdinand Braun in 1874. Hedvig Willman
Hedvig Charlotta Konstantina Willman née ''Harling'' (18 July 1841 – 15 August 1887) was a Swedish stage actor, opera singer and drama teacher. She was co-principal of ''Dramatens elevskola'' in 1877-86. Life Hedwig Willman was born in Stockholm. She was the daughter of the clothe's seller P. A. C. Harling and Emelie Charlotta Wàhlsten. She married the actor Anders Willman (1834-1898) in 1871. Career Hedvig Willman made her debut in '' Ladugårdslandsteatern'' in Stockholm in 1857, and was engaged at the theater company of Johan Anders Oskar Andersson (1813-1866) and then by Edvard Stjernström at the Mindre teatern. From 1863 onward, she was employed as an actor at the Royal Dramatic Theatre and, from 1865, as an opera singer at the Royal Swedish Opera in parallel. Elfrida Andrée
Elfrida Andrée (19 February 1841 – 11 January 1929), was a Swedish organist, composer, and conductor. A 1996 recording on the Caprice label features Andrée's piano quintet, along with a piano sonata, the string quartet in D minor, and vocal music. She was a sister of Swedish opera singer-soprano Fredrika Stenhammar. Life and career Andrée was born in Visby to the doctor Andreas Andrée. She was the pupil of Ludvig Norman and Niels Wilhelm Gade. Her sister was the singer Fredrika Stenhammar. An activist in the Swedish women's movement, she was one of the first female organists to be officially appointed in Scandinavia. She began work in Stockholm in 1861 and became the organist at Gothenburg Cathedral in 1867. In 1897 she was named leader of the Gothenburg Workers Institute Concerts, establishing her reputation as the first Swedish woman to conduct a symphony orchestra. Selma Jacobsson
Selma Ida Jacobsson (27 January 1841, in Stockholm – 30 March 1899, in Stockholm) was a Swedish photographer. Selma Jacobsson was born to the merchant Levi Abraham Jacobsson and Sally Pohl, the sister of the opera singer Agnes Jacobsson and the architect Ernst Jacobsson, and married the Armenian linguist Norayr de Byzance in 1881. She was a student of Bertha Valerius. She opened her own photographic studio in Stockholm in 1872. She was a successful photographer with clients within the diplomatic corps and high society. Carolina Rediviva
Carolina Rediviva is the main building of the Uppsala University Library in Uppsala, Sweden. The building was begun in 1820 and completed in 1841. The original architect was Carl Fredrik Sundvall. Later additions to the building have been designed by Axel Johan Anderberg and Peter Celsing. The name, literally "Carolina Revived", was given in remembrance of the old ''Academia Carolina'' building, which had functioned as the university library for most of the 18th century (see Uppsala University Library). Carolina Rediviva is the oldest and largest university library building in the country. It is also the site where the ''Codex Argenteus'' and the Cancionero de Upsala are kept. Constantina Carolina Amalia "Amelie" von Strussenfelt (1803–1847), was a Swedish writer and poet. Biographyer Amelie von Strussenfelt was the daughter of the courtier and nobleman Michael von Strussenfelt and Fredrika Beata Lindencrona, and the sister of the writer Ulrika von Strussenfelt. Her mother died in childbirth in 1803 and her father left the country after his remarriage not long after, and she was placed in the care of her paternal grandparents, while her sister was placed in the care of her maternal grandparents. The sisters were to have a bad relationship, and her sister Ulrika placed the blame for her late development as a writer on the fact that her sister Amelie had always been considered the more gifted one. She never married, and like her sister, she worked as a governess (from 1831) and eventually set up a school (1845), at that point the most common and almost only socially acceptable profession for an upper-class woman in need of supporting herself. Anna Carlström
Anna Carlström, née ''Vickberg'' (13 February 1780 – 1850), was a Swedish procurer and brothel owner. She was the manager of the brothel "London" in Stockholm, one of the two brothels, London and Stadt Hamburg, which were supported by the authorities in a temporary experiment between 1838 and 1841 to control the spread of sexually transmitted disease. She was the owner of one of only two unique brothel licenses ever issued in her country at the time. Anna Carlström published her memoires in 1841.
