Hans Nielsen Hauge
Hans Nielsen Hauge (3 April 1771 – 29 March 1824) was a 19th-century Norwegian Lutheran lay minister, spiritual leader, business entrepreneur, social reformer and author. He led a noted Pietism revival known as the Haugean movement. Hauge is also considered to have been influential in the early industrialization of Norway. Biography Hans Nielsen Hauge was born the fifth of ten children in his ancestral farm of Hauge at Rolvsøy (''Hauge på Rolvsøy'') in the county of Østfold. His father was Niels Mikkelsen Evenrød (1732–1813) and mother Maria Olsdatter Hauge (1735–1811). He had a poor and otherwise ordinary youth until 5 April 1796, when he received his "spiritual baptism" in a field near his farm. Within two months, he had founded a revival movement in his own community, written a book, and decided to take his mission on the road. He wrote a series of books in his lifetime. Just Henrik Ely (30 November 1759 – 30 March 1824) was a Norwegian military officer who served as a representative at the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly during 1814. Johan Andreas Altenburg
Johan Andreas Altenburg (1763–1824) was a Norwegian merchant and shipowner. He belonged to the patriciate of the port town of Skien and was the maternal grandfather of playwright and theatre director Henrik Ibsen. Biography Altenburg was born at Lille Ulefos, in Telemark, Norway. He was the son of sawmill manager Diderik Altenburg (1719–1766) and Marichen Johansdatter Barth (1737–1769). His parents died early. After the death of his father, his mother was married in 1767 to Engebreth Christopher Blom Bertelsen Bomhoff (1737–1800). After his mother's subsequent death, he and his siblings lived with their stepfather. Johan Altenburg was originally a ship's captain, but stopped sailing at a relatively young age. Altenburg ran a lumber trade, owned several ships, a farm and a large brewery in the community of Bratsberg. Peder Anker
Peder Anker (8 December 1749 – 10 December 1824) was a prominent Norwegian landowner, businessman and politician. He served as the prime minister of Norway from 1814 until 1822. Biography Peder Anker was a member of a Danish-Norwegian noble family. He was born in Christiania, the son of the wealthy merchant Christian Ancher. He had three brothers Iver (1745–1772), Bernt (1746–1805) and Jess (1753–1798). Following education in Christiania and a year as student at the University of Copenhagen, Peder Anker and his brothers spent five years traveling with private tutors in Great Britain, France, Germany, and Italy. They were pupils of the noted Swedish naturalist Carl von Linné at Uppsala University in 1764. He was granted Danish nobility in 1778 and was awarded the title of General War Commissioner in 1788. Jens Jensen Gram
Jens Jensen Gram (12 February 1779 – 2 November 1824) was a Norwegian jurist and politician. He was born in Copenhagen as the son of Jens Gram. He studied at the University of Copenhagen from 1798, and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1804. He worked in the Danish Chancellery from 1806 until 1808, when he was appointed as acting district stipendiary magistrate of Ringerike and Hallingdal. He got the position on a permanent basis in 1815. He lived in Nes from 1808, and at Ask from 1816. He was a deputy representative to Norwegian Constituent Assembly in 1814, and was elected to the Norwegian Parliament in 1818 and 1821, representing the constituency of Buskeruds Amt. Frants Philip Hopstock
Frants Philip Hopstock (15 November 1746 – 8 October 1824) was a Norwegian priest. Biography He was born in Kongsberg as a son of forester Andreas Christian Hopstock (1695-1751) and his wife Maren, née Hofmann Krogh. Both of his parents died when he was still young. He was raised by Frederik Arentz (1702-1779) who was bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin. He graduated at Bergen Cathedral School in 1764 and began studying at the University of Copenhagen enrolling as a student in 1764 and graduated with the cand.theol. degree in 1772. He was a vicar in Skovger and Vaale before becoming dean in Vaale in 1790. In 1797 he became inspector at the newly established teacher's seminary in Tønsberg. Frants Philip Hopstock was also a personal acquaintance of Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and Norway, who visited him at Vaale in 1798.
