John Andrew Shulze
John Andrew Shulze (July 19, 1775November 18, 1852) was a Pennsylvania political leader and the sixth governor of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Muhlenberg Family, Muhlenberg family political dynasty. Early life and education Shulze was born in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, Tulpehocken Township in the Province of Pennsylvania. He was the son of Eve Elizabeth (Muhlenberg) and the Reverend Christopher Emmanuel Shulze. Shulze was the grandson of Henry Muhlenberg and the nephew of brothers Peter Muhlenberg and Frederick Muhlenberg, who were leading politicians. Shulze grew up in the Pennsylvania Dutch community speaking their German language, German dialect, and for his entire life would speak English language, English with a noticeable accent. Shulze studied at Franklin and Marshall College, Franklin College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was ordained a minister in the Lutheran church in 1796. Andrew Gregg
Andrew Gregg (June 10, 1755May 20, 1835) was an American politician. A Democratic-Republican, he served as a United States Senator for Pennsylvania from 1807 until 1813. Prior to that, he served as a U.S. Representative from 1791 until 1807. From June to December 1809, he served briefly as President pro tempore of the United States Senate. Gregg was born on June 10, 1755, in Carlisle in the Province of Pennsylvania. His father was Andrew Gregg (1710–1789), and his mother was Jane Scott (1725–1783). He married Martha Potter the daughter of Major General James Potter who was a vice president of the state of Pennsylvania. The couple had 11 children. His son, Andrew Gregg, Jr., built the Andrew Gregg Homestead about 1825. His father, also named Andrew Gregg, was a member of the Paxton Boys. Joseph Hiester
Joseph Hiester (November 18, 1752June 10, 1832) was an American politician, who served as the fifth governor of Pennsylvania from 1820 to 1823. He was a member of the Hiester family political dynasty, and was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party. Biography Hiester was the son of John Hiester and Maria Barbara Epler. He received a common-school education when he was not working on the farm, and became a clerk in a store in Reading run by Adam Whitman. He became a partner in the store in 1771 when he married Elizabeth, Whitman's daughter. He owned slaves. At the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, he raised and equipped in that town a company with which he took part in the battles of Long Island and Germantown. He was then promoted to colonel. He was captured and briefly confined in the prison ship "Jersey," where he did much to alleviate the sufferings of his fellow prisoners. The election of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania occurs when voters in the U.S. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania select the Governor and Lieutenant Governor for the ensuing four years beginning at noon on the third Tuesday of January following the election. Pennsylvania gubernatorial elections were held triennially beginning with the first election in 1790 until 1878. Gubernatorial elections have been held quadrennially since the election of 1882. Gubernatorial general elections are held on Election Day, coinciding with various other federal, statewide, and local races. Per Article II of the 1790 Pennsylvania Constitution, gubernatorial elections were held triennially on the second Tuesday of October, with the three-year term commencing on the third Tuesday of December immediately following the election.
