The list of Norwegian monarchs ( no, kongerekken or ''kongerekka'') begins in 872: the traditional dating of the Battle of Hafrsfjord, after which victorious King Harald Fairhair merged several petty kingdoms into that of his father. Norsk Biografisk Leksikon
is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. The project had economic support from the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, and the second edition (NBL2) was launched in the years 1999–2005, including 10 volumes and around 5,700 articles. In 2006 the work for an electronic edition of NBL2 began, with support from the same institutions. Hans Carl Knudtzon
Hans Carl Knudtzon (29 January 175116 December 1823) was a Norwegian merchant, ship-owner and politician. Born in the north of Germany to a mercantile family, he travelled to Trondheim, Norway, where he had success in the trading business. He was also successful within politics, acting as vice burgomaster and subsequently burgomaster of Trondheim. At the end of his life he was decorated with numerous orders. Sofie Parelius
Sofie Marie Parelius (18 September 1823 – 18 September 1902) was a Norwegian stage actress. She was known for her ability in comedy and viewed as one of the best Norwegian actors of her time in the classic works of Ludvig Holberg. She belonged to the elite of the actors at the Christiania Theatre in the second half of the 19th-century, when Norwegian actors successively replaced the Danish on Norway's national stage. Biography Sofie Parelius was born in Bergen, Norway. She was the daughter of Henrich Kjønning Parelius and Sofie Dahm. She debuted in 1852 at the Christiania Norwegian Theatre in Oslo. She was at Det norske Theater in Bergen in 1857-1860. Simon Pedersen Holmesland
Simon Pedersen Holmesland (29 July 1823 – 11 January 1895) was a Norwegian politician. He was born Holme in 1823 as the younger brother of Søren Pedersen Jaabæk, who would sit in the Norwegian Parliament from 1845 to 1890. His youngest brother Peder Johan Pedersen Holmesland also became a politician. Simon Pedersen Holmesland was himself elected to the Norwegian Parliament in 1874, and re-elected in 1877, representing the rural constituency of Lister og Mandals Amt. Lars Christian Dahll (5 November 1823 – 29 November 1908) was a Norwegian military officer and politician. He chaired Centralforeningen for Udbredelse af Legemsøvelser og Vaabenbrug from 1878 to 1881. Asbjørn Kloster
Asbjørn Kloster (21 December 1823 – 18 January 1876) was an educator, social reformer and leader of the Norwegian temperance movement in the 19th century. Background Asbjørn Olsen Kloster was born in Vestre Bokn in Tysvær, Rogaland, Norway. His ancestors were farmers on the islands in Boknafjord. He grew up on the Boknaberg farm. His parents were farmer (and later merchant) Ole Endresen (1795–1883) and Martha Asbjørnsdatter Kloster (1800–1880). At eight years of age, he was sent to live with an aunt on the farm Vik at Rennesøy. He was married to Marie Elisabeth Knudsen from 1861. Career After his confirmation Kloster moved to Stavanger, where his parents had relocated. Kloster worked as a salesman, first at his father's shop and later for others. During the period from 1842 to 1845, Kloster came in contact with the Religious Society of Friends movement in Stavanger. Thomas Dyke Acland Tellefsen (26 November 1823 – 6 October 1874) was a Norwegians, Norwegian pianist, composer, and Piano pedagogy, teacher. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957.
