Otto Fabricius
Otto Fabricius (6 March 174420 May 1822) was a Danish missionary, naturalist, ethnographer, and explorer of Greenland. Biography Otto Fabricius was born in Rudkøbing on the island of Langeland, Denmark, where his father was a rector. In his youth, he was educated largely at home by tutors. In 1762, he was matriculated at the University of Copenhagen. In 1765, he was admitted to the Greenland Mission Seminary (''Seminarium Groenlandicum''), where he attended classes taught by Poul Egede. In 1768 he graduated with a degree in divinity. He was sent as a missionary to the southwestern coast of Greenland from 1768 to 1773. During this period, he made enormous amounts of observations and collections. His laboratory was an Inuit house made of turf. His only artificial light was an oil lamp. Hedevig Johanne Bagger
Hedevig Johanne Bagger (November 1740- May 4, 1822) was a Danish inn-keeper and postmaster. Biography She was born the port of Korsør in Sorø, Denmark. She was the daughter of merchant Rasmus Langeland (1712–80) and Anne Marie Jensdatter (1714–78). Her father ran a successful business as co-owner of the ferry connection to Funen. Her brother Jens Christian Langeland (1737-1770) was later mayor and customs officer in the city. She was married in 1761 to Marcus Marcussen Bagger who was the estate manager at the main farm Saltø near Næstved. Her husband died at the age of 44 in February 1770 and her brother later that same year. She bought one of Korsør's larger guesthouses which within a few years was expanded into an inn. In connection with another rebuilding in the early 1780s, a post office was established in property. She applied to establish the local post office in 1782 and was in 1798 named royal postmaster. John Christmas (1757–1822)
John Christmas (13 October 1757—6 January 1822) was an English-born Danish sea captain and general trader. Christmas was born in Bideford, and emigrated to Denmark in 1790. He became a merchant and businessman in Copenhagen. Personal life and family Christmas was born on 13 October 1757 in Bideford, Devonshire and was the son of merchant John Smith and Judith Rebecca Hopkins. He was originally given his father's surname, and was baptized as John Christmas Smith. Through his mother's side of the family he was a descendant of the Irish noble family, Christmas of Waterford. In 1790, he was permitted by the crown to adopt the surname Christmas and to bear the family's coat of arms registered by the College of Arms in London. Thus he and his descendants bear the name ''Christmas''. Their coat of arms consists of a barrel above a helmet and a shield.
