Vilhelm Pedersen
Thomas Vilhelm Pedersen (28 January 1820 – 13 March 1859) was a Danish painter and illustrator who is known for his illustrations for fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. He was the first artist to illustrate Andersen's works. His drawings were converted into wood prints and used in the Danish and German editions. Biography Pedersen was born in Karlslunde. He initially followed in his father's footsteps and became an officer in the Royal Danish Navy. He was interested in drawing and in 1843 Christian VIII granted him four years' paid leave to enable him to pursuit an artistic career. He studied with Wilhelm Marstrand and enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He first exhibited his works 1847 but voluntarily returned to the army at the outbreak of the Three Year War. He participated in the Battle of Eckernförde, which he would later depict in two paintings. He then continued his interrupted naval career until his early death in 1859. Private life His sons (18 ... Peter Christian Uldahl
Peter Christian Uldahl (1 March 1778 - 1 March 1820) was a Danish piano maker. He started Denmark's first piano factory in Copenhagen in 1809. Just under 600 instruments left the factory during its 11 years of existence. A giraffe piano from the factory is in the collection of the Danish Music Museum. Early life Uldahl was born in Assens on the island of Funen as the illegitimate child of maid.Birthe Jørgensdatter. In 1801, he moved to Copenhagen after having completed his apprenticeship as a joiner. Later the same year he left the country to escape military service. In Saint Petersburg, he worked for a musical instrument maker. Career After three and a half years in Saint Petersburg, Uldahl continued to Vienna by way of Prague. Johan Ludvig Mansa
Johan Ludvig Mansa (April 10, 1740 – April 13, 1820), was a German-Danish landscape gardener, born April 10, 1740 in Zweibrücken, Germany, where his father was palace gardener. In 1765 he went to Denmark and was gardener at Fuglsang Manor, Lolland. In the 1780s, he was appointed as a gardener and steward of Marienlyst Castle in Helsingør, Denmark and in 1794 as a gardener at Frederiksborg Castle. Finally in 1799 he was employed as a gardener and steward at Fredensborg Palace. The majority of his work was in transforming formal French gardens into English landscape gardens. Some remnants of his works can still be seen on the slope north of Marienlyst Castle in Helsingør as well as a few manors and palaces around Denmark. Books He was the author of "Havekatekismus eller Grundregler for nyttige Havevæxters Dyrkning i Danmark" (Basic rules for growing of useful plants in Denmark) published in 1789 and won the Kgl Danske Landhusholdningsselskab prize. Zweibrücken (; french: Deux-Ponts, ; Palatinate German: ''Zweebrigge'', ; literally translated as "Two Bridges") is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, on the Schwarzbach river. Jean-Françoìs de Dompierre de Jonquières or (27 November 1775 - 27 May 1820) was a Dutch-Danish merchant of French descent, landowner and amateur artist. He is remembered for his drawings and watercolours of landscapes from North Zealand. Biography Jean-Françoìs de Dompierre de Jonquières was born on 27 November 1775 in The Hague, the son of the counselor Paulinus Philippus Henricus de Dompierre de Joncquières (13 August 1744 – 12 May 1822) and Cecile de Coninck (4 November 1748 – 12 June 1819). Ancestors of his father had fled from France to Holland after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. He achieved a doctoral degree in law from the Leiden University. Carl Adolph Castenschiold (1740 – 30 July 1820) was a Danish landowner and royal official. He owned the Knabstrup Manor and Hagestedgaard estates, and was the brother of Joachim Castenschiold. Early life Castenschiold was born on St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies, the son of plantation owner Johan Lorentz Carstens and Jacobe von Holten. The family moved to Copenhagen around the time of his birth. They lived in Store Kurkestræde. His father purchased Knabstrup and was ennobled under the name Castenschiold in 1745. Property and titles He inherited Knabstrup Manor in 1760 but sold the estate in 1764.
