General Ticket
The general ticket, also known as party block voting (PBV) or ticket voting, is a type of block voting in which voters opt for a party, or a team's set list of candidates, and the highest-polling party/team becomes the winner. Unless specifically altered, this electoral system (''at-large'' voting) results in the victorious political party receiving ''100%'' of the seats. Rarely used today, the general ticket is usually applied in more than one multi-member district, which theoretically allows regionally strong minority parties to win some seats, but the strongest party nationally still typically wins with a landslide. Uriel Holmes
Uriel Holmes (August 26, 1764 – May 18, 1827) was a United States representative from Connecticut. He was born in East Haddam, Connecticut, and then moved with his parents to Hartland, Connecticut. He attended the common schools and graduated from Yale College in 1784. Later, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1798 and commenced practice in Litchfield, Connecticut. Holmes was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1803 until 1805. He served as the prosecuting attorney of Litchfield County from 1807 until 1814 and was judge of the Litchfield County court from 1814 until 1817. Holmes was elected as a Federalist to the Fifteenth Congress and served from March 4, 1817, until his resignation in 1818. He died in Canton, Connecticut Canton is a town, incorporated in 1806, located in the Farmington Valley section of Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. Thomas Scott Williams (June 26, 1777 – December 15, 1861) was a U.S. Representative from Connecticut. He was a descendant of immigrant Robert Williams of Roxbury, a cordwainer of Great Yarmouth and Norwich, England, who arrived in Roxbury, Massachusetts with his wife and several children about 1635. Born in Wethersfield, Connecticut, Williams completed preparatory studies. He was graduated from Yale College in 1794. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1799 and commenced practice in Mansfield, Connecticut. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut, in 1803. He was appointed attorney of the board of managers of the school fund of Hartford 1809–1810. He served in the State house of representatives in 1813, 1815, and 1816. Nathaniel Terry Jr. (January 30, 1768 – June 14, 1844) was an American politician, lawyer, and judge who served a single term in the United States House of Representatives, representing the at-large congressional district of Connecticut from 1817 to 1819 as a member of the Federalist Party. He previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1804 to 1815, and subsequently served as the 4th mayor of Hartford, Connecticut from 1824 to 1831. Early life and education Terry was born in Enfield, Connecticut on January 30, 1768 to Nathaniel Terry Sr. and Abiah Dwight. He attended common schools and Dartmouth College. Timothy Pitkin (January 21, 1766 in Farmington, Connecticut – December 18, 1847 in New Haven, Connecticut) was an American lawyer, politician, and historian. He graduated from Yale in 1785, taught in the academy at Plainfield, Connecticut for a year, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1788. He served in the State Legislature of Connecticut in 1790, 1792, and 1794‑1805, serving as Clerk of the House 1800‑1802 and as Speaker 1803‑1805. He was elected as a Federalist to the United States Congress in the Ninth Congress to fill in part the vacancies caused by the resignations of Calvin Goddard and Roger Griswold; and was reëlected to the Tenth and to the five succeeding Congresses, thus serving from September 16, 1805, to March 3, 1819.
