Kristoffer Nilsen Svartbækken Grindalen (9 September 1804 – 25 February 1876) was a Norwegian criminal, killer and thief. Biography Grindalen was born on 9 September 1804 at the crofter's farm Nordre Svartbækken in Elverum, and spent 41 years of his life in prisons. He was convicted for a murder and robbery near Ekrumstormyra in Løten in 1875, and was beheaded by axe at the site of the murder in 1876, witnessed by 2,500 spectators, in the last public and civil execution in Norway. Moments before his beheading he confessed to the murder. Henrik Sørensen Henrik Sørensen (12 February 1882 – 24 February 1962) was a Norwegian painter. Henrik Heftye
Henrik Thomassen Heftye (21 November 1804 – 18 February 1864) was a Norwegian businessman and philanthropist. Personal life He was born in Christiania as the son of merchant Thomas Johannessen Heftye (1767–1827) and his wife Katharina Tschudi (1773–1807). Through his sister Betha he was a brother-in-law of ship-owner Mogens Thorsen. He was the brother of banker and politician Johannes Thomassen Heftye, and through him an uncle of banker Thomas Johannessen Heftye, and a granduncle of Thomas Heftye. Career His father migrated to Norway from Switzerland in the late eighteenth century, and founded the family company Thos. Joh. Heftye & Søn. Peder Balke (November 4, 1804 – February 5, 1887) was a Norwegian painter. He is known for portraying the landscape of Norway in a romantic and dramatic manner. Biography Peder Andersen was born on the island of Helgøya, in Hedmark county, Norway. He was the son of Anders Thoresen and Pernille Pedersdatter. He grew up in Ringsaker, but lived in the 1820s on the Balke farm in Toten in Oppland county. Farmers in Toten paid for his education, and he decorated several farms in Toten in return. They actively encouraged his painting activities and later supported him in obtaining higher education. In the autumn of 1827, Balke served as an apprentice to engraver and painter Heinrich August Grosch (1763–1843). He was also a student at the Tegneskole under Grosch and Jacob Munch. Balke signed a two-year contract as an apprentice to the Danish decorator and artist Jens Funch. Eskild Bruun
Eskild Bruun (12 October 1804 – 9 October 1877) was a Norwegian barrister, judge and businessman. Personal life Bruun was born in Kristiansand on 12 October 1804, a son of merchant Arnt Bruun and Johanne Louise Askildsen. From 1836 he was married to Dorothea Marie Young, a daughter of wholesaler Jørgen Young. He died in Kristiania on 9 October 1877. Career Bruun graduated as cand.jur. in 1828, and was barrister with access to work with the Supreme Court from 1835. He served as Attorney General of Norway from 1839 to 1842. In 1843 he was appointed judge in the Supreme Court. Christopher Henrik Holfeldt Tostrup
Christopher Henrik Holfeldt Tostrup (20 September 1804- 17 October 1881) was a Norwegian timber merchant and land-owner. Biography Tostrup was born at Hjelmeland in Rogaland, Norway. He was the son of infantry captain Nicolai Tostrup (1768–1858) and his wife Thale Margrethe Resen Holfeldt (1779–1860). He was one of eight siblings in a family which included goldsmith Jacob Tostrup (1806–1890) and politician Hans Tostrup (1799-1856) . In 1828, he was employed by Haagen Mathiesen (1759–1842) and became manager of Mathiesen's properties in Hurdal, Skedsmo and Trysil. After Mathiesen's death in 1842, he bought the properties in Hurdal, Hadeland and Nannestad together with Mathiesen's son Mogens Larsen Mathiesen (1799–1875).
