AFI (band)
AFI (abbreviation for A Fire Inside) is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members. Originally a hardcore punk band, they have since delved into many genres, starting with horror punk and following through post-hardcore and emo into alternative rock and gothic rock. AFI has released eleven studio albums, ten EPs, one live album and one DVD. ''Burials'' is the ninth studio album by American rock band AFI. It was released on October 22, 2013 through Republic Records. In a statement regarding the album, AFI frontman Davey Havok said, "This record is of silence, and the burials that result from that silence. It's of betrayal, cruelty, weakness, anxiety, panicdeep and slowdespair, injury and loss. And in this it is shamefully honest and resolutely unforgiving." Conception and composition Vocalist Davey Havok has said the album has the darkest lyrics of any AFI album. In contrast to previous releases, Havok described ''Burials'' as being "very layered and very rich", adding that it was "far, far less straightforward than what we did on the last record, which – much like every record we create – was the result of a natural growth, a natural indication of where we are as songwriters now". "I Hope You Suffer" is a song by American rock band AFI. It was released as the lead single from their ninth studio album ''Burials'' in 2013. Background The three and a half year gap between "I Hope You Suffer", and their single "Beautiful Thieves" marked the longest gap between new material in the band's existence. During his time with Progress Wrestling, professional wrestler Jimmy Havoc used the song as his entrance music. Composition Guitarist Jade Puget spoke with Loudwire about the song. "You can tell when listen to the song," he said.
