Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz
Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz (30 January 1716 – 1 March 1796) was a Swedish architect and civil servant. Adelcrantz's style developed from a rococo influenced by Carl Hårleman, the leading architect in Sweden in the early years of his career, to a classical idiom influenced by the stylistic developments in France in the mid-to-late 18th century. As ''överintendent'', he headed the royal and public building works from 1767 until his retirement in 1795. Family and childhood Adelcrantz was born in 1716 in Stockholm and was the son of the architect Göran Josuæ Adelcrantz, who had changed his name from Törnqvist at his ennoblement four years earlier. As a student in Uppsala, Göran Josua Törnqvist had been a member of the student theatre troupe known as Den Swänska Theatren that later performed in the Lejonkulan theatre in Stockholm. He came into the employment of Nicodemus Tessin the Younger in 1697, the year the disastrous fire at the old Castle of Stockholm took place and the p ...

Anna Elisabeth Hartwick
Anna Elisabeth Hartwick (1796–1882) was a Swedish lace industrialist. She lived in Vadstena, which had a long history of professional lace making. In the 18th century, individual makers of bobbin lace sold their works to peddlers, but in the 19th century, this small-scale industry developed in to a larger industry dominated by Anna Elisabeth Hartwick and her main rival Catharina Lidman (1792–1856). Hartwick bought up lace from many of the lace makers of Vadstena and had them sold through her shop and through salespersons employed by her throughout the nation. Through her employee Catharina Andersdotter, she sold lace to the queen, Louise of the Netherlands, and the Swedish court. Franz Berwald
Franz Adolf Berwald (23 July 1796 – 3 April 1868) was a Swedish Romantic composer. He made his living as an orthopedist and later as the manager of a saw mill and glass factory, and became more appreciated as a composer after his death than he had been in his lifetime. Life and works Berwald was born in Stockholm and came from a family with four generations of musicians; his father, a violinist in the Royal Opera Orchestra, taught Franz the violin from an early age; he soon appeared in concerts. In 1809, Karl XIII came to power and reinstated the Royal Chapel; the following year Berwald started working there, as well as playing the violin in the court orchestra and the opera, receiving lessons from Edouard du Puy, and also started composing. The summers were off-season for the orchestra, and Berwald travelled around Scandinavia, Finland and Russia. Of his works from that time, a septet and a serenade he still considered worthwhile music in his later years. In 1818 Berwald st ...
