Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, the mainland territory of which comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Paul Andreas Kaald
Paul Andreas Kaald (12 June 1784 – 24 June 1867) was a Norwegian seafarer. He was chartered as a Norway, Norwegian privateer captain from Trondheim during the Gunboat War (1807–1814). Biography Kaald went to sea when he was fourteen years old and passed the examination for first mate in 1803. His first journey as a privateer was in 1808; he captained the return of a captured ship to Norway. The captured vessel was refitted and renamed ''Den Flinke'' before being sent on a second journey; the voyage was truncated when the ship was retaken by Scotland. Captain Kaald was imprisoned in Scotland for two years. Kaald was later sent back to Trondheim. Three years later he ventured forth on his third privateering expedition. His ship ''Anna Bruun'', with a crew of 60 and 14 cannons, was one of the largest privateers based in Norway. This journey made Kaald a rich man. Jørgen Herman Vogt
Jørgen Herman Vogt (21 July 1784 – 12 January 1862) was a Norwegian politician who served as First Minister of Norway from 1856 to 1858, during the personal union between Sweden and Norway. The first minister was subordinated to the governor and the viceroy in the political hierarchy, but for two periods when no governor or viceroy was present, he served as a ''de facto'' prime minister of Norway. Vogt was born in the Bragernes neighborhood of Drammen in Buskerud, Norway. He was the son of timber merchant Niels Nielsen Vogt (1755-1809) and Abigael Monrad (1759-1812). Vogt was brought up as one of 13 siblings in Kongsberg. He entered the University of Copenhagen in 1800 and earned his law degree in 1806. Christian Ulrik Kastrup
Christian Ulrik Kastrup (1784 – 6 September 1850) was a Norwegian jurist, military officer and politician. A jurist by education, from Stavanger, he worked as a military officer until 1811, when he became chief of customs in Vardø. In 1817 he became '' fut'' in the district ''Nordhordland og Voss''. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Søndre Bergenhus in 1821, 1822 and 1824. Political parties did not exist at the time. He became County Governor of Finnmarkens amt in 1828, of Stavangers amt in 1829 and of Nordre Bergenhus amt in 1833. Christopher Hansteen
Christopher Hansteen (26 September 1784 – 11 April 1873) was a Norwegian geophysicist, astronomer and physicist, best known for his mapping of Earth's magnetic field. Early life and career Hansteen was born in Christiania as the son of Johannes Mathias Hansteen (1744–1792) and his wife Anne Cathrine Treschow (1754–1829). He was the younger brother of writer Conradine Birgitte Dunker, and through her the uncle of Bernhard Dunker and Vilhelmine Ullmann, and granduncle of Mathilde Schjøtt, Ragna Nielsen and Viggo Ullmann. His mother was a first cousin of Niels Treschow. The intention was for Hansteen to become a naval officer, but since his father died when Hansteen was young, this plan did not materialize. Instead, he attended Oslo Cathedral School from the age of nine. Niels Treschow was the principal of this school.
