is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. The project had economic support from the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, and the second edition (NBL2) was launched in the years 1999–2005, including 10 volumes and around 5,700 articles. Michael Heltzen
Michael Heltzen (22 June 1712 – 10 September 1770) was a Norwegian mining engineer. He was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of Helle Michelsen (1674-1725) and Sophie Cathrine Paulsdatter Vogt (d. 1723). He started studies at the University of Copenhagen. In 1733, he went on a several-year study trip in Europe, where he toured German mining operations. He was assigned a position as civil servant ( no, assessor) at Kongsberg from 1740. He served as head of the Kongsberg Silver Mines from 1756, and assumed the position of ' from 1758, and the position of ' from 1764. Jürgen Christoph Von Koppelow
Jürgen Christoph von Koppelow or Jørgen Christopher von Koppelau (variants: Koppelöu, Kaplan, Coplou, Coppelouwe, Kobbelow) (1684–1770) was a Norway, Norwegian nobleman and officer that fought in the Great Northern War on behalf of Denmark–Norway. Von Koppelow was the son of Curt Christoph von Koppelow, a German-Norwegian nobleman from the House of Koppelow in Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Von Koppelow led the Norwegian Army's 3rd Søndenfjeldske Dragoon Regiment upon its establishment in 1750. Christen Thorn Aamodt
Christen Thorn Aamodt (4 August 1770 – 8 May 1836) was a Norwegian priest. He was born in Kvinesdal in Vest-Agder, Norway. He was the son of "poor parents". Despite his background, he enrolled as a student in 1789, and eventually graduated with the cand.theol. degree. He was hired as a curate in Vinje in Telemark in 1798 and Nes in Buskerud during 1803. He then became vicar in Valle in Aust-Agder in 1804. In 1810 he was promoted to dean of Raabyggelagen, which corresponded to the rural inland areas of Aust-Agder including the traditional district of Setesdal. After five years at Lund in Rogaland from 1814 to 1819, he became dean in Lister, his home district and located in the western part of Vest-Agder Vest-Agder (; "West Agder") was one of 18 counties (''fylker'') in Norway up until 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Aust-Agder to form Agder county. Georg Sverdrup (born Jørgen Sverdrup; 25 April 1770 – 8 December 1850) was a Norwegian statesman, best known as one of the presidents of the Norwegian Constituent Assembly in Eidsvoll in 1814. He was a member of the Norwegian Parliament and was also responsible for the development of the first Norwegian university library.
