Christian VI
Christian VI (30 November 1699 – 6 August 1746) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1730 to 1746. The eldest surviving son of Frederick IV and Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, he is considered one of Denmark-Norway's more anonymous kings, but he was a skilled politician, best known for his authoritarian regime. He was the first king of the Oldenburg dynasty to refrain from entering in any war. During his reign both compulsory confirmation (1736) and a public, nationwide school system (1739) were introduced. His chosen motto was "''Deo et populo''" (for God and the people). Early years Christian was born on 30 November 1699 at Copenhagen Castle as the second but eldest surviving son of King Frederick IV of Denmark by his first consort, Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. Holmestrand
is a town and municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Holmestrand. The town was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The neighboring rural municipality of Botne was merged into the municipality of Holmestrand on 1 January 1964. Sande municipality merged into Holmestrand on January 1, 2020. The municipality of Hof was merged into Holmestrand on January 1, 2018. The town lies by the Oslofjord and is built beside the water. It was granted municipal status in 1752, but had been a harbour for exporting of timber/lumber since around 1550. It borders the Oslo Fjord in the east, Tønsberg in the south, and it shares a short border with Larvik in the south-west. It is bordered by Viken in the west and north. Erik Must Angell (15 September 1744 – 28 August 1814) was a Norwegian jurist and politician. He graduated both as cand.theol. and cand.jur. He became burgomaster of Throndhjem in 1774, magistrate president in 1788 and judge in 1800. He was also a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters. Jakob Edvard Colbjørnsen (19 November 1744 - 13 February 1802) was a Norwegian-Danish jurist who served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Denmark (Da. ''Højesteret'', Nor. ''Høyesterett''). Catharina Lysholm
Catharina Lysholm ( Meincke; 1744 - 9 December 1815), was a Norwegian businesswoman and ship-owner. Catharina Meincke was born at Trondheim in Trøndelag, Norway. She was the daughter of merchant and office holder Hilmar Meincke (1710–1771) and Catharina Mølmann (1720–1748). In 1763, she married merchant Broder Brodersen Lysholm (1734–1772), then one of the most successful merchants in Trondheim. Both her father and husband had originated from Flensburg in Southern Schleswig. She acquired wealth through both inheritance and marriage. Her father was co-owner of the copper works at Løkken and Røros, organized a West Indies company and operated a tobacco factory. Upon his death, she inherited the bulk of his estate. Upon the death of her spouse in 1772, she took over his business interests in partnership with Hans Carl Knudtzon who had moved to Trondheim from Bredstedt in North Frisia. Jacob Juel (1744 – 21 April 1800) was a Norwegian timber trader and civil servant. He was born in Christiania as the son of timber trader and civil servant Hans Juel and Else Sophie Dorothea Rasch. He was the brother of Maren Juel Maren Juel (18 March 1749 – 20 February 1815) was a Norwegian landowner, regarded as the wealthiest woman in Norway at her time.
