Hector Gottfried Masius
Hector Gottfried Masius (13 April 1653 – 20 September 1709) was a German Lutheran theologian serving as vice-chancellor of the University of Copenhagen from 1691 to 1692 and, again, from 1700 to 1701. He acquired wealth through marriages and owned a number of estates. His children were ennobled in 1712 with the surname von der Maase. Early life and education Masius was born in Schlagsdorf in Mecklenburg. He went to school in Lübeck. In c. 1668, he came to Giessen where he obtained a theology degree in 1675. He later continued his studies in Strasbourg, Tübingen and Basel where he studied Hebrew under Johannes Buxtorf. He then went on to Leiden and Utrecht. Career in Danish service Moving to Copenhagen, he won the favour of Grand Chancellor Frederik Ahlefeldt who arranged for him to give private lectures at the University of Copenhagen. Johan Peter Suhr
Johan Peter Suhr (1712–1785) was a Danish merchant and founder of the trading house J. P. Suhr & Søn. He served as mayor of Copenhagen under Struense. He was the grandfather of Theodor Suhr. Early life and education Johan Peter Suhr was born in Købelev Rectory on the island of Lolland, the son of provost of Købelev and Vindeby Bernt Frederik Suhr and his wife Christine Suhr (née Hornemannpriest). He started an apprenticeship in 1728 with flax shopkeeper Oluf Hansen Aagaard on Gammeltorv in Copenhagen. On 22 November 1748, he married the flax shopkeeper's daughter, Anna Dorthea Aagaard. Career Suhr took over the business when his father-in-law died in 1749. He became a member of the Flax Shopkeeper's Guild in 1750. The company thrived and Suhr became a grocer in 1767. He traded in a wide range of products, including tar, linum, hemp, coal, lead and salt. Battle Of Gadebusch
The Battle of Gadebusch or Wakenstädt (20 December 1712) was Sweden's final great victory in the Great Northern War. It was fought by the Swedes to prevent the Siege of Stralsund (1711–1715), loss of the city of Stralsund to Denmark, Danish and Saxony, Saxon forces. Prelude During 1712, all of Sweden's Dominions of Sweden, dominions south of the Baltic Sea, apart from forts, had been conquered by the allies Denmark, Saxony, and Russia. In the Baltic the Danish admiral Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve, Gyldenløve patrolled with a squadron to disrupt Swedish supply lines to the Continent. It was vital for Sweden not to lose Stralsund, as it was the gateway to campaigns in Poland. While a Danish army moved in the region of Hamburg, a large Russian-Saxon force stood south of Stralsund. Hirsholmene
Hirsholmene is a group of ten small Danish islands in the Kattegat; Hirsholm, Græsholm, Lilleholm, Tyvholm, Kølpen and Deget, located approximately 7 km to the northeast of Frederikshavn. Frederick IV (Danish: ''Frederik''; 11 October 1671 – 12 October 1730) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1699 until his death. Frederick was the son of Christian V of Denmark-Norway and his wife Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. Great Northern War
The Great Northern War (1700–1721) was a conflict in which a coalition led by the Tsardom of Russia successfully contested the supremacy of the Swedish Empire in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. The initial leaders of the anti-Swedish alliance were Peter I of Russia, Frederick IV of Denmark–Norway and Augustus II the Strong of Saxony– Poland–Lithuania. Frederick IV and Augustus II were defeated by Sweden, under Charles XII, and forced out of the alliance in 1700 and 1706 respectively, but rejoined it in 1709 after the defeat of Charles XII at the Battle of Poltava. George I of Great Britain and the Electorate of Hanover joined the coalition in 1714 for Hanover and in 1717 for Britain, and Frederick William I of Brandenburg-Prussia joined it in 1715.
