Frederick IV (Danish: ''Frederik''; 11 October 1671 – 12 October 1730) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1699 until his death. Frederick was the son of Christian V of Denmark-Norway and his wife Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. Early life Frederick was born on 11 October 1671 at Copenhagen Castle as the eldest son of King Christian V and his spouse Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. The newborn prince was baptized the same evening with the name Frederick by the royal confessional Hans Leth. His grandfather King Frederick III had died a year and a half before he was born, and as the eldest son of the ruling king he was thus crown prince from birth. At the age of 18, he was given a seat on the Council of State as the heir apparent to the throne. Conrad, Count von Reventlow (21 April 1644 – 21 July 1708) was a Danish statesman who was "Grand Chancellor of Denmark" ( da, Danmarks storkansler), a predecessor title of the Prime Minister of Denmark, from 1699 until his death. His chancellorship occurred during the reign of King Frederick IV. Early life Conrad von Reventlow was the son of Chancellor Ditlev von Reventlow (1660–1664) and his wife, Christine zu Rantzau (1618-1688). He was the brother of chamberlain Count Henning von Reventlow (1640–1705) and Chancellor, Count Ditlev von Reventlow (1654–1701). Military career He attended Academy in Sorø Academy and studied at the University of Orleans (1662). Nicolai Eigtved
Nicolai Eigtved, also known as Niels Eigtved (4 June 1701 – 7 June 1754) was a Danish architect. He introduced and was the leading proponent of the French rococo or late baroque style in Danish architecture during the 1730s–1740s. He designed and built some of the most prominent buildings of his time, a number of which still stand to this day. He also played an important role in the establishment of the Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi''), and was its first native-born leader. Youth and early training He was born Niels Madsen on the farm in the village of Egtved in the parish of Haraldsted on the island of Zealand, Denmark to Mads Nielsen and Dorthe Hansdatter. Bredo von Munthe af Morgenstierne (23 September 1701 – 13 January 1757), born Bredo Munthe, was a Norwegian-Danish civil servant, Supreme Court justice and landowner who was raised to the peerage under the name Munthe af Morgenstjerne in 1755. He owned Bækkeskov Manor at Præstø from 1742. Early life and education Munthe was born in the local rectory at Froen, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, the son of provost Otto Munthe (1659–1733) by his second wife Else Cathrine Hammer (1669–1736). His great-grandfather was Ludvig Munthe. He attended Kristiania Latin School and enrolled at the University of Copenhagen in 1718 where he graduated in theology in 1720 before studying law. Henrik Ehm
Henrik Ehm (died December 1701) was a Danish coppersmith and alchemist. He owned and leased a number of copper mills in North Zealand, including Hammermøllen at Hellebæk and Brede Works, Fuglevad and Nymølle on Mølleåen. He also owned a number of properties in Copenhagen, including the house at Nyhavn 59 which is still known as the Alchemist's House after him. Biography Henrik Ehm is first mentioned in 1655. His father operated a coppermill at Vedbæk from at least 1634 and was granted a piece of land in the area in 1646. Ehm was involved in a legal dispute with his mother and Dr. Svabe over the right to the coppermill in 1656 and 1657. In 1658, he was awarded the right to use the mill and became owner in 1662. In 1656 he also acquired the royal coppermill at Kronborg which he exchanged for Hammermøllen at Hellebæk in 1659. He owned Hammermøllen until 1664 as well as Holmegård at Hornbæk until 1662. Arnold Houbraken (28 March 1660 – 14 October 1719) was a Dutch painter and writer from Dordrecht, now remembered mainly as a biographer of Dutch Golden Age painters. Life Houbraken was sent first to learn ''threadtwisting'' (Twyndraat) from Johannes de Haan, who introduced him to engraving. After two years he then studied art with Willem van Drielenburch, who he was with during the rampjaar, the year 1672. He then studied 9 months with Jacobus Leveck and finally, four years with Samuel van Hoogstraten. In 1685 he married Sara Sasbout, and around 1709 he moved from Dordrecht to Amsterdam. Arnold Houbraken painted mythological and religious paintings, portraits and landscapes. He is best known for the art historical work ''The Great Theatre of Dutch Painters'' (1718–1721). When he died his son Jacob assisted his mother with the last proofs of the manuscript before publishing. The Digital Library for Dutch Literature (Dutch: Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren or DBNL) is a website (showing the abbreviation as dbnl) about Dutch language and Dutch literature. It contains thousands of literary texts, secondary literature and additional information, like biographies, portrayals etcetera, and hyperlinks. The DBNL is an initiative by the DBNL foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Society of Dutch Literature (Dutch: Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde). Building of the DNBL was made possible by donations, among others, from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (Dutch: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek or NWO) and the Nederlandse Taalunie. From 2008 to 2012, the editor was René van Stipriaan. The work is done by eight people in Leiden (as of 2013: The Hague), 20 students, and 50 people in the Philippines who scan and type the texts.
