16th Gyalwa Karmapa
The sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (; August 14, 1924 – November 5, 1981) was the spiritual leader of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Followers believed him to be part of the oldest line of Tulku, reincarnate lamas in Vajrayana, Vajrayana Buddhism, known as the Karmapas, whose coming was predicted by the Gautama Buddha, Buddha in the Samadhiraja Sutra#In the Kagyu lineage, Samadhiraja Sutra. The 16th Karmapa was considered to be a "living Buddha" and was deeply involved in the transmission of the Vajrayana Buddhism to Europe and North America following the Annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China, Chinese invasion of Tibet. He had many monikers, including “King of the Yogis”, and is the subject of numerous books and films. Kingdom Of Derge
The Kingdom of Derge was an important Monarchy, kingdom in Kham from the 15th to the 19th century. It was a center of industry, religion and politics, with the seat of its kingdom in the town of Dêgê County, Degé. The kings of Derge followed a 1300-year lineage. At its height, the population of the kingdom consisted of 12–15,000 families. The northern border of the kingdom was defined by Qinghai Lake; on the east, the boundary terminated at those states that utilized the Horpa variation of the Rgyalrongic languages, Chantui and Litang; the southern and western boundaries were defined by Batang, Sichuan, Batang, Sanai (Tibet), Sanai, Gonjo County, Gonjo and Draya; and Lhato and Chamdo, respectively. The kingdom was known for its metal working and was an important center in the establishment of the Rimé movement in Tibetan Buddhism.
