16th Canadian Comedy Awards
The 16th Canadian Comedy Awards, presented by the Canadian Comedy Foundation for Excellence (CCFE), honoured the best live, television, film, and Internet comedy of 2014. The awards were presented in Toronto, Ontario, on 13 September 2015. Canadian Comedy Awards, also known as Beavers, were awarded in 29 categories. The film '' Corner Gas: The Movie'' led with nine nominations, followed by web series ''Space Riders: Division Earth'' with seven and ''This Hour Has 22 Minutes'' with six. ''Space Riders: Division Earth'' and ''This Hour Has 22 Minutes'' each won four Beavers. Ceremony After spending two years in Ottawa, Ontario, the Canadian Comedy Awards (CCA) returned to Toronto for the 16th awards. The awards were presented at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon of the Toronto Reference Library on 13 September 2015. Toronto Reference Library
The Toronto Reference Library is a public reference library in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The library is located on the corner of Yonge Street and Asquith Avenue, within the Yorkville neighbourhood of downtown Toronto. The Toronto Reference Library is the largest and most visited branch of Toronto Public Library (TPL). Established in 1909, the Toronto Reference Library initially operated from another building on College Street. In the late-1960s, management of the library was assumed by the Metropolitan Toronto Library Board. Believing the space in the original structure to be inadequate, Raymond Moriyama was tasked to find a new site, and was later commissioned by the library board to design a new library building for the site. The new building was opened to the public in 1977 as the Metropolitan Toronto Reference Library. The library continued to operate under that name until 1998, when it reverted to its original name. Ben's At Home
''Ben's at Home'' is a 2014 Canadian romantic comedy film, directed by Mars Horodyski. The film stars Dan Abramovici as Ben, a man who responds to an emotional breakup on the eve of his 30th birthday by rearranging his life so that he will never have to leave his apartment again, only to have his desire to live as a hermit challenged when he and Jess (Jessica Embro), a regular driver for his food delivery service, develop a romantic interest in each other. The cast also includes Jim Annan, Rob Baker, Craig Brown and Inessa Frantowski. The film was shot in August 2013 on a budget of just $20,000, half funded by Horodyski and Abramovici and half by a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The Debaters
''The Debaters'' is a Canadian radio comedy show hosted by Steve Patterson. It airs on CBC Radio One, Saturdays at 1:30PM and Wednesdays at 11:30AM, Eastern Time. During each episode, two debates take place between two sets of two contestants. The topics are deliberately comedic, including "Apples are better than oranges" and "Darth Vader was a bad father". The winner is chosen by audience reaction at the end of the debate. Each season has approximately 33 new episodes. These are recorded in front of live audiences in studios, theatres and clubs across Canada. In 2011, the radio series also taped a number of episodes for broadcast as a television series on CBC Television, but did not get a second season. Lorne Cardinal (born 6 January 1964) is a Canadian stage, television and film actor, best known for portraying Davis Quinton on ''Corner Gas''. He is a former rugby union player. Early life Cardinal was born on a reserve of the Sucker Creek First Nation at Lesser Slave Lake. He attended local schools as a child. He obtained a B.F.A. degree in acting from the University of Alberta in 1993, and was also the first Indigenous student to do so. Cardinal is also a rugby union enthusiast.
