Patrick Duffy (bishop)
The Most Reverend Patrick Duffy (Irish ''Pádraig Ó Dubhthaigh'') was appointed as Roman Catholic Bishop of Clogher on 12 May 1671, twenty-one years after the death of his predecessor, Heber MacMahon in 1650. A Franciscan, he was installed as bishop in 1673. He died two years later on 1 August 1675. He was succeeded by Bishop Patrick Tyrrell in 1676. Bishop Duffy served in his position in Clogher for about two years. According to tradition, he was buried in the graveyard attached to the pre-Reformation church at Clontibret, now the site of the Church of Ireland church. The Duffys were the ruling family of Clontibret and supplied the priests to the local parish for centuries before the end of Gaelic rule in Ulster in the early 17th century. Arthur Chichester, 1st Earl of Donegall (16 June 1606 – 18 March 1675), was an Anglo-Irish peer and soldier. Origins He was the eldest son and heir of The 1st Viscount Chichester, from Eggesford, Devon, by his first wife Anne Copleston, heiress of Eggesford. Career He made a career as a soldier before being elected to the Irish House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Antrim in 1634 and again in 1640. Having distinguished himself in helping to put down the rebellion which took place in Ulster in 1641, Chichester was admitted to the Privy Council of Ireland in 1643. It was on the advice of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, that in 1647 he was created Earl of Donegall in the Peerage of Ireland. The earldom was created with a special remainder to the male heirs of his father, whom he succeeded a year later as 2nd Viscount Chichester and Governor of Carrickfergus for life. Bishop Of Killaloe
The Bishop of Killaloe ( ) is an episcopal title which takes its name after the town of Killaloe in County Clare, Ireland. In the Roman Catholic Church it remains a separate title, but in the Church of Ireland it has been united with other bishoprics. History The Diocese of Killaloe was one of the twenty-four dioceses established at the Synod of Rathbreasail in 1111. The boundaries of the diocese consisted of almost all of County Clare, the northern part of County Tipperary and the western part of County Offaly. Its Irish name is ''Cill-da-lua'' (Church of Lua), so named from St Mo Lua, an abbot who lived in the late 6th century. At the Synod of Kells in March 1152, Killaloe some lost territory when the dioceses of Kilfenora, Roscrea and Scattery Island were created. Daniel Witter (died 1675) was an Irish Anglican priest in the seventeenth century. He was born in England and moved to Ireland as chaplain to the James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He was Dean of Ardfert from 1661 to 1664 when he became Dean of Down.
