Heptanese School (painting)
The Heptanese School of painting ( el, Επτανησιακή Σχολή, , The School of the Seven Islands, also known as the Ionian Islands School) succeeded the Cretan School as the leading school of Greek post-Byzantine painting after Crete fell to the Ottomans in 1669. Like the Cretan school, it combined Byzantine traditions with an increasing Western European artistic influence and also saw the first significant depiction of secular subjects. The school was based in the Ionian Islands, which were not part of Ottoman Greece, from the middle of the 17th century until the middle of the 19th century. The center of Greek art migrated urgently to the Ionian islands but countless Greek artists were influenced by the school including the ones living throughout the Greek communities in the Ottoman Empire and elsewhere in the world. Angelo Trevisani
Angelo Trevisani (1669 – after 1753) was an Italian painter of the late- Baroque, active mainly in Venice. He was born in Venice (or possibly Capodistria), the younger brother of Francesco Trevisani who was born in Capodistria, and who painted mainly in Rome under the patronage of Cardinal Ottoboni. Angelo was a pupil of Andrea Celesti. He also painted for the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Pilastrello in Lendinara. He was influenced by Antonio Balestra. In Italian, it is Angelo Trevisanute. Bartolomeo Letterini (or Litterini) (1669-after 1731) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He was born at Venice and instructed by his father, Agostino Letterini. Messina (, also , ) is a harbour city and the capital of the Italian Metropolitan City of Messina. Antonio Filocamo
Antonio Filocamo (Messina, 1669–1743) and his brother Paolo were Italian painters of the Baroque period. Biography Natives of Messina, they are noticed by Hackert in his ''Memorie de' Pittori Messinesi''. They were educated in the school of Carlo Maratta in Rome. On their return to Messina, they established an academy, which was much frequented. They executed conjointly several works, both in oil and in fresco, in the former of which Antonio was very superior to Paolo. Their principal works are in the churches of Santa Caterina di Valverde and San Gregorio, at Messina, where they both died of the plague in 1743. In 1712 Antonio and his brother decorated the choir of the Acireale Cathedral, depicting the ''Ascension of the Virgin''. Pietà, Malta
Pietà ( mt, Tal-Pietà) is a small town in the Central Region of Malta, located near the outskirts of the capital city Valletta. Pietà is the suburb next-closest to the capital after Floriana. Its name is derived from Italian and signifies "Mercy." Etymology The name of Pietà in Italian means Mercy. Description Malta's former national hospital, St. Luke's, is located in Tal-Pietà. Tal-Pietà is a coastal town, and an old boathouse of notable historic interest (now in use as a restaurant) is located on the waterfront. Alessio Erardi
Alessio Erardi (1669–1727) was a Maltese painter. He was the son of the artist Stefano Erardi and his wife Caterina Buttigieg. He initially studied art with his father, and eventually spent five and a half years in Rome between 1695 and 1701. His style is regarded as an early form of Baroque, and he was influenced by both his father and Mattia Preti.
