Giovan Battista Crespi
Giovanni Battista Crespi (23 December 1573 – 23 October 1632), called Il Cerano, was an Italian painter, sculptor, and architect. Biography He was born in Romagnano Sesia, the son of a painter, Raffaele Crespi, and moved to Cerano with his family some years later. In 1591 he is known to have been living in Milan. True to the Counter-Reformation piety zealously expressed in Milanese art of his time, his paintings focus on mysteries and mystical episodes in saintly life. The crowded canvases and the angles recall Mannerism, but his paintings show an emotion that evokes common sentiments in Baroque art. Along with other artists, he completed a series of paintings ( Quadroni of St. Charles) of the life of St. Charles Borromeofor the Duomo of Milan; an altarpiece with the ''Baptism of St. Augustine'' for San Marco, Milan; and a ''Mass of St. Gregory'' for the Basilica of San Vittore in Varese (1615–17). Hendrick Cornelisz Vroom

Giovanni Bernardo Carboni
Giovanni Bernardo Carboni (12 May 1614 – 11 March 1683) (also Carbone) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Biography He was born in Albaro, near Genoa. He became a pupil of Giovanni Andrea de Ferrari and he was likely a contemporary in the studio with two other Ferrari pupils: Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione and Giovanni Andrea Podesta. Other influences on his style came from trips to Venice of c. 1643–4 and 1650, his friendships with Valerio Castello and Casone, as well as the contact with his prolific brother and painter, Giovanni Battista Carlone. He best known as a portrait painter, usually in full-length or three quarters view; his portraits are mainly of aristocracy dressed in full regalia or shown amid items of their property in the manner of Anthony van Dyck. He died at Genoa. Illuminated Manuscript
An illuminated manuscript is a formally prepared document where the text is often supplemented with flourishes such as borders and miniature illustrations. Often used in the Roman Catholic Church for prayers, liturgical services and psalms, the practice continued into secular texts from the 13th century onward and typically include proclamations, enrolled bills, laws, charters, inventories and deeds. While Islamic manuscripts can also be called illuminated, and use essentially the same techniques, comparable Far Eastern and Mesoamerican works are described as ''painted''. The earliest illuminated manuscripts in existence come from the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths and the Eastern Roman Empire and date from between 400 and 600 CE. Examples include the Codex Argenteus and the Rossano Gospels, both of which are from the 6th century. Nicolas Robert
Nicolas Robert (18 April 1614 – 25 March 1685) was a French miniaturist and engraver. He was born in Langres and died in Paris. In 1664 he was appointed as "peintre ordinaire de Sa Majesté pur la miniature" (Painter of Miniatures) to Louis XIV. Works Blunt highlights Robert's main works as follows: * Illustrations within the book - ''Guirlande de Julie'' - which was produced by Nicolas Jarry as a gift for Julie Lucine d'Angennes from her future husband the Duke of Montausier. Juan Carreño De Miranda
Juan Carreño de Miranda (25 March 1614 — 3 October 1685) was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period. Biography Born in Avilés in Asturias, son of a painter with the same name, Juan Carreño de Miranda. His family moved to Madrid in 1623, and he trained in Madrid during the late 1620s as an apprentice to Pedro de las Cuevas and Bartolomé Román. He came to the notice of Velázquez for his work in the cloister of Doña María de Aragón and in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary (''Iglesia de la Virgen del Rosario''), , La Joyosa. In 1658, Carreño was hired as an assistant on a royal commission to paint frescoes in the Alcázar of Madrid; later destroyed in the fire of 1734. In 1671, upon the death of Sebastián de Herrera, he was appointed court painter to the queen (''pintor de cámara'') and began to paint primarily portraits.
