John Davies (poet, Born 1569)
Sir John Davies (16 April 1569 (baptised)8 December 1626) was an English poet, lawyer, and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1597 and 1621. He became Attorney General for Ireland and formulated many of the legal principles that underpinned the British Empire. Early life Davies was born in Wiltshire, possibly at Chicksgrove Manor at Lower Chicksgrove, to John and Mary Davies. He was educated at Winchester College for four years, a period in which he showed much interest in literature. He studied there until the age of sixteen and went to further his education at the Queen's College, Oxford, where he stayed for just eighteen months, with most historians questioning whether he received a degree. Davies spent some time at New Inn after his departure from Oxford, and it was at this point that he decided to pursue a career in law. Patrick O'Loughran
Patrick O'Loughran (''in Irish language, Irish: Pádraig Ó Lochráin'') (died 1 February 1612) was a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Armagh, archdiocese of Armagh and an Irish Catholic Martyrs, Irish Catholic Martyr. O'Loughran was born in Donaghmore, County Tyrone to an ''Erenagh'' family. He later became chaplain to Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone. He left Ireland for Flanders to pursue his education some time before the Flight of the Earls in September 1607. He administered the sacraments to exiled Irish noblemen who had fled to Belgium, and served as chaplain to Catherine O'Neill, Countess of Tyrone. He also attended the Irish College, Douai, where he met O'Neill and traveled with him to Rome. O'Loughran returned to Ireland in June 1611 and was arrested upon landing in Cork. Bishop Of Down And Connor
The Bishop of Down and Connor is an episcopal title which takes its name from the town of Downpatrick (located in County Down) and the village of Connor (located in County Antrim) in Northern Ireland. The title is still used by the Catholic Church for the diocese of that name, but in the Church of Ireland it has been modified into other bishoprics. History The sees of Down and Connor were established at the Synod of Rathbreasail in 1111. For a brief period in the early 12th-century, they were united under Máel Máedóc Ua Morgair (Saint Malachy), who also became Archbishop of Armagh. On 29 July 1438, plans for a permanent union of the sees of Down and Connor were submitted to King Henry VI of England for his sanction. Edward King (British Poet)
Edward King (161210 August 1637) is the subject of John Milton's poem "Lycidas". King was born in Ireland in 1612, the son of Sir John King, a member of a Yorkshire family who had migrated to Ireland, and Catherine Drury (died 1617), daughter of Robert Drury and a grand-niece of Sir William Drury, Lord President of Munster. Sir John was Clerk of the Crown and Hanaper and MP for Roscommon, a valued servant of the Crown and a major landowner. Edward was one of nine children: his siblings included Sir Robert King of Boyle Abbey and the writer Dorothy Dury. Edward King was admitted a pensioner of Christ's College, Cambridge, on 9 June 1626, and four years later was elected a fellow. Milton, though two years his senior and himself anxious to secure a fellowship, became his close friend as well as his rival.
