The 15th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the 1964 Saskatchewan general election, Saskatchewan general election held in April 1964. The assembly sat from February 4, 1965, to September 8, 1967. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party, Liberal Party led by Ross Thatcher formed the government. 1964 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1964 Saskatchewan general election was held on April 22, 1964, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) government of Premier Woodrow Lloyd was defeated by the Liberal Party, led by Ross Thatcher. The CCF had governed Saskatchewan since the 1944 election under the leadership (until December 1961) of Tommy Douglas. By 1964 the provincial Social Credit Party had collapsed, nominating only two candidates. In another morale hit, the federal Social Credit Party endorsed the Liberals during the election. While the CCF held on to nearly all of their vote from the previous election and only trailed the Liberals by 0.1%, most of the shift in Social Credit support went to the Liberals and proved decisive in helping to push Thatcher to a majority government. Kelsey (Saskatchewan Provincial Electoral District)
Kelsey was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, encompassing the towns of Hudson Bay and Carrot River. The district was named after 17th century explorer Henry Kelsey. Created before the 12th Saskatchewan general election in 1952, this riding was combined with part of the Melfort-Tisdale district (as " Tisdale-Kelsey") before the 17th Saskatchewan general election in 1971. Mathieu Theodore Breker
Mathieu Theodore "Matt" Breker (February 15, 1928 – November 20, 2008) was a farmer, pharmacist and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Humboldt from 1964 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Englefeld, Saskatchewan and was educated in Humboldt and at the University of Saskatchewan, receiving a B.A. and a BSc in pharmacy. Breker was defeated by Edwin Tchorzewski Edwin Laurence Tchorzewski (April 22, 1943 – June 6, 2008) was a Canadian politician, former Saskatchewan finance minister and member of the Legislative Assembly for 25 years. Humboldt was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in central Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Incorporated as a city in 2000, Humboldt (pop. 4,998) was the largest centre in the riding. Robert Alexander Walker
Robert Alexander Walker, (March 6, 1916 – March 28, 1989) was a Canadian lawyer who served in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1948 to 1967. Walker was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the son of G.H. Walker and Jean McMillan, and was educated in Mazenod and at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1941, he married Rosa Rebecca Nagel. First elected to the Saskatchewan assembly as the CCF member for Hanley constituency in the 1948 general election, he went on to re-election in 1952, and 1956. In 1956 he joined the cabinet of Premier Tommy Douglas as Attorney General and Provincial Secretary. He continued in those roles following his re-election in 1960. After Douglas left to lead the federal NDP in 1961, Woodrow Lloyd became premier and the first universal medical care plan in Canada was introduced after the doctor's strike. Hanley is a former provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centred on the town of Hanley, Saskatchewan. This district was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. Lionel Philias Coderre
Lionel Philias Coderre (April 15, 1915 – August 3, 1995) was a merchant, electrician and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Gravelbourg from 1956 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, as a Liberal. He was born in Coderre, Saskatchewan, the son of Eudore Coderre and Clodia Charbonneau, and was educated in Coderre and at the College Mathieu in Gravelbourg. From 1937 to 1939, Coderre worked at a nurse at the Provincial Hospital in Weyburn. He served in the South Saskatchewan Regiment during World War II, attained the rank of Major and fought in the Dieppe Raid in 1942. He was twice mentioned in dispatches. After the war, Coderre owned and operated the local power plant and a hardware store / electrical contracting business in Coderre. George Gordon Leith
George Gordon Leith (June 18, 1923 – May 31, 1996) was a farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Elrose from 1964 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the son of John Alexander Leith and Florence Turner, and grew up on the family farm near Glamis. Leith studied at the University of Saskatchewan. He served in the Canadian Army and then the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. In 1945, he married Beryl Kathleen Philion. Leith was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1960; he was elected in 1964 and again in 1967 but was defeated by Hayden Owens when he ran for reelection in 1971. He ran for the leadership of the provincial Liberal party in 1971. Leith later served as special assistant to the Canadian Minister of Agriculture Eugene Whelan. Elrose was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southwestern Saskatchewan, this constituency was centred on the town of Elrose. The riding was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912 as "Eagle Creek"; it was renamed "Elrose" in 1917. Isidore Charles Nollet
Isidore Charles "Toby" Nollet (November 18, 1898 – April 29, 1988) was an American-born rancher and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cut Knife from 1944 to 1964 and Cut Knife-Lloydminster from 1964 to 1967 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. Biography He was born in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota and was educated at Saint Benedict's Academy and Saint Thomas Military College in Minnesota. Nollet served overseas with the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. After the war, with his father, he moved to Freemont, Saskatchewan, where he established a ranch that raised Aberdeen Angus cattle. Nollet served as reeve of the rural municipality of Hillsdale. He was a member of the United Farmers of Canada and of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. In 1933, he married Patricia "Peggy" Chicilo.
