Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry
Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry and Baron Lixnaw (1502–1590) was an Irish nobleman, politician, and peer. Life He was the youngest son of Edmond Fitzmaurice, 10th Baron Kerry, and Una, daughter of Teige MacMahon. He was made heir to the ancestral estates in Clanmaurice, by the death of his elder brothers and their heirs, he owed his knowledge of that event to the fidelity of his old nurse, Joan Harman, who together with her daughter, made her way from Dingle to Milan, where he was serving in the imperial army. On his return, he found his inheritance contested by a certain John fitz Richard, who however, surrendered it in 1552. He was confirmed in his estate by Mary, and on 20 December 1589 executed a deed settling it on his son Patrick and heirs male, remainder to his own right heirs. Maol Muire Ó HÚigÃnn
Maol Muire Ó hÚigÃnn, also Maol Muire Ó Huiginn (Anglicised: Miler O'Higgin; died 1590 at Antwerp), was an Irish Catholic clergyman. A Franciscan, he was appointed Archbishop of Tuam by the Holy See on 24 March 1586, and died in office. Ó hÚigÃnn was a son of Mathghamhain mac Maol Ó hÚigÃnn of Dougharane, Leyeny, County Sligo, a descendant of Tadgh Óg Ó hÚigÃnn (died 1448). His brother was the poet Tadhg Dall Ó hÚigÃnn. Little is known of Ó hÚigÃnn's early life, but Tadhg Dall was fostered at TÃr Conaill with the ruling Uà Domnaill family, and Maol Muire may have gone there with his brother. According to McGettigan, "A later source states that in his youth Maol Muire was an accomplished poet and harpist and also something of a philosopher." Elizabeth Clinton, Countess of Lincoln ( Knyvet; c. 1570–1638) was an English noblewoman and writer. She was Countess of Lincoln from 1616 until the death of her husband Thomas Clinton, 3rd Earl of Lincoln, in 1619, then Dowager Countess. The ''Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland'' ( ga, Annála RÃoghachta Éireann) or the ''Annals of the Four Masters'' (''Annála na gCeithre MáistrÃ'') are chronicles of Middle Ages, medieval Irish history. The entries span from the Flood myth, Deluge, dated as 2,242 Anno Mundi, years after creation to AD 1616. Publication delay Due to the criticisms by 17th century Irish historian Tuileagna Ó Maol Chonaire, the text was not published in the lifetimes of any of the participants. Text The annals are mainly a compilation of earlier annals, although there is some original work. A chronicle ( la, chronica, from Greek ''chroniká'', from , ''chrónos'' – "time") is a historical account of events arranged in chronological order, as in a timeline. Typically, equal weight is given for historically important events and local events, the purpose being the recording of events that occurred, seen from the perspective of the chronicler. A chronicle which traces world history is a universal chronicle. This is in contrast to a narrative or history, in which an author chooses events to interpret and analyze and excludes those the author does not consider important or relevant. The information sources for chronicles vary. MÃcheál Ó Cléirigh (), sometimes known as Michael O'Clery, was an Irish chronicler, scribe and antiquary and chief author of the ''Annals of the Four Masters,'' assisted by Cú ChoigcrÃche Ó Cléirigh, Fearfeasa Ó Maol Chonaire, and Peregrinus Ó Duibhgeannain. He was a member of the O'Cleric Bardic family and compiled with others the ''Annála RÃoghachta Éireann'' (Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland) at Bundrowse in County Leitrim on 10 August 1636. He also wrote the Martyrology of Donegal in the 17th Century.
