Paolo Biancucci
Paolo Biancucci (1583–1653) was born at Lucca and was a pupil of Guido Reni, and influenced by Sassoferrato. He painted a ''Purgatory'', for the church of the Suffragio San Francesco Saverio also known as the ''Church of the Suffragio'' is a Baroque-style Roman Catholic church located in Piazza Ferrari #12 in Rimini, Italy. Hendrik Goudt
Hendrick Goudt (c. 1583 – 17 December 1648) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker and draftsman of landscapes and religious subjects who was strongly influenced by Adam Elsheimer. Biography Goudt was born in The Hague, the son of Arend Goudt and Anneken Cool. Goudt's grandfather Hendrik came from a family of high officials. He was the nephew and heir of the Willem Goudt, steward of the States of Holland, whose wealth is on display at Noordeinde Palace, which he constructed in 1533. Goudt's mother was the daughter of an inn-keeper in Dortrecht who by all accounts suffered from mental illness characterised at the time as hysteria. Arend Goudt on married Anneken on 10 January 1604 in order to legitimise his son, and continued to live apart from her. Hendrick left for Rome after this. Giovanni Valesio
Giovanni Luigi Valesio, also known as ''Giovanni Valesio'' or ''Luigi Valesio'', (c. 1583–1633) was an Italian painter and, most prominently, an engraver of the early-Baroque, active in his native city of Bologna, and then in Rome. Biography Malvasia claims he was the son of a Spanish soldier initially stationed in Reggio Calabria. He frequented the studio of Ludovico Carracci. After 1621, during the papacy of Gregory XV, Valesio relocated to Rome under the patronage of Lavinia Albergati, the wife of Orazio Ludovisi, the pope's brother. He helped Ulisse Aldrovandi in the preparation of some of his volumes of natural history. He was aided by a pupil, Giovanni Battista Coriolano. Juan De Mesa
Juan de Mesa y Velasco (1583–1627) was a Spanish Baroque sculptor. He was the creator of several of the effigies that are used in the procession during the Holy Week in Seville. Biography De Mesa was born in Córdoba and baptized on 26 June 1583. He entered the workshop of Juan Martínez Montañés in Seville in 1606. He died in the city in 1627. His early death, coupled with the large gaps in his biography, has led to speculation that he suffered from a chronic disease such as tuberculosis. Like his master, Montañés, de Mesa's works were realistic rather than imaginative in form, his sculptures closely replicate the human form. This was in line with the Catholic Church's aesthetic program for the visual arts following the Council of Trent, which sought to make the arts accessible to the poorly educated by using realistic forms. Pieter Lastman
Pieter Lastman (1583–1633) was a Dutch language, Dutch painter. Lastman is considered important because of his work as a painter of history pieces and because his pupils included Rembrandt and Jan Lievens. In his paintings Lastman paid careful attention to the faces, hands and feet. Early life Pieter Lastman was born in Amsterdam. He was the fourth child of Pieter Segersz, (1548-1624), a town-beadle who was dismissed in 1578 for being a Catholic. His mother, Barber Jacobsdr, (1549-1624) was an appraiser of paintings and goods. Education and Italy His apprenticeship was with Gerrit Pietersz Sweelinck, the brother of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Between approximately 1604 and 1607 Lastman was in Italy, where he was influenced by Caravaggio (as were the painters of the Utrecht School a few years later) and by Adam Elsheimer. Nicolaes De Giselaer
Nicolaes de Giselaer, also Nicolaes de Geijselers, Nicolaes de Geyselers, Nicolaas de Gijselaer, Nicolaas de Gijzelaer, Nicolaes de Gyselaer, Nicolaas de Gyzelaer, Nicolaes de Ghyselaer (1583–c.1654) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman. De Giselaer was born in Dordrecht. Not much is known about his life, except through his works. From records it is known he was born in Dordrecht, and worked in Leiden and Utrecht in 1616, and later Amsterdam between 1616-1617. He eventually moved back to Utrecht, where he continued working until his death around 1654. The Centraal Museum has some of his works.
